It been told in the news that Cardiff City, if they win the FA Cup this season, will not be able to play in Europe. This is supposedly because they come under the jurisdiction of the Welsh FA even though they follow the rules of the English FA.

This all seems stupid if they are allowed to play in the competition but not Europe if they win. It like being allowed to buy a lottery ticket but if you hold the winning ticket, not being able to claim the money. I personally think that if they are allowed to play in the FA Cup then they should most definitely be allowed to play in Europe as that is the prize for winning the FA Cup.

Another rumour is the English FA can't nominate them for Europe as they come under the Welsh FA jurisdiction and the Welsh FA can't nominate them for Europe as they haven't played any games in the Welsh leagues. Its a kind of Catch 22 situation that they are finding themselves in.

But saying all of this and feeling that they should be allowed. Apparently when they said they wanted to play in the English Leagues, they new that if they ever Won the FA Cup or Premier League, that they would not be able to play in Europe, so really they have nothing to moan about.

Oh I love football :-)

They used to play in Europe almost every season in the 60's and 70's ........ curtosy of winning the Welsh cup . So it works both ways ......... they should NOT qualify .

Not anymore. They can't qualify for Europe by winning the Welsh cup anymore. They forfeited that right by staying in the English league.

true ........... what was worse ......... on the odd occasion that a team like Bangor or Barry won the Welsh Cup , they were refused European Football because they were not Football League clubs.

Crazy !:hahaha:

and as a welsh team they then completely forfeited the right to play in europe- they accepted that at the time

It like being allowed to buy a lottery ticket but if you hold the winning ticket, not being able to claim the money.but on the other side of the coin, would someone buy a lottery ticket knowing that should they win they can't claim the money?

Like I said earlier its still worth their while financially to stay in a league where they can play bigger clubs than Barry town or Llanelli.
