Boro Hungary for link up

Taken from sky sports

Middlesbrough have opened talks with Hungarian outfit Ujpest about a potential link-up.

Boro officials met with Ujpest during the recent Soccerex conference and both sides are now keen on exploring a potential cooperation agreement.

With Hungary now in the EU their players do not need work-permits and many of their top internationals have already made the move to England in recent years.

Zoltan Gera, Peter Halmosi, Bela Balogh, Istvan Ferenczi, Tamas Priskin, Akos Buzsaky, Krisztian Timar, Tamas Vasko, Gyorgy Sandor and Marton Fulop are all plying their trades in England whilst a host of the country's young talent have been snapped up by Premier League acadamies.

Sheffield United recently tied up a deal with Ferencvaros and now Boro could link-up with Ujpest.

Talks

The club's sporting director Istvan Salloi confirmed talks had taken place.

"We got a very warm welcome at Middlesbrough and they stressed that Boro is willing to talk about a mutual cooperation as they want to escalate their relationships in central Europe," Salloi explained.

"Their [player] monitoring system is what we're most interested in. They're in a situation that they can't compete with star clubs such as Chelsea in signing big-name players so it's very important for them to sign players for lower fees [that's what we want to learn from them].

"Middlesbrough would be keen on a supposed co-operation as they also heard about that Sheffield United is 'spreading' into the direction of Hungary. Ferencvaros can be a good 'advertisement' at this point - if the two clubs will have a fruitful partnership then other England clubs would open their gates toward Hungary too.

"We have already had developed talks with Boro officials about a cooperation and we can continue this idea in May when Boro's football academy director and a player observer comes to Ujpest."
