Chelsea are hoping that the past does not repeat it self for a third time. This is the 3rd time these 2 teams meet in the CL semifinal in last 4 years. The first two times Livepool edged Chelsea on the return legs held at Ansfield. This time, however, the 2nd leg will be Stamford Bridge.
Only a few injuries:
J Pennant - hamstring injury - return ~ april +19
Kewell - groin strain - return ~ june 8
Agger - ankle/foot injury ~ june 8
drogba - knee injury - return ~ april 22
cudicini - hamstring injury - no return date

3-0:thup
Third time lucky for Chelsea? I don't think so. Fancy a tight win for Liverpool at Anfield then a draw at Stamford Bridge.

team news
Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has been passed fit after sitting out Saturday's 2-0 Premier League win over Fulham with a neck injury. The Reds skipper trained on Monday and is set to start in the Anfield clash.
Frank Lampard will be available to play for Chelsea after missing the past two games on compassionate leave because his mother is ill with pneumonia.
Goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini (hamstring) is out, while striker Didier Drogba remains doubtful with a knee complaint.
Liverpool (from): Reina, Arbeloa, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Skrtel, Riise, Aurelio, Babel, Benayoun, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, Lucas, Voronin, Crouch, Torres, Kuyt, Pennant, Itandje.
Chelsea (from): Cech, Hilario, Ferreira, Belletti, Terry, Alex, Carvalho, Ben-Haim, A Cole, Bridge, Makelele, Ballack, Lampard, Obi, J Cole, Malouda, Shevchenko, Drogba, Kalou, Anelka, Wright-Phillips.
If history is anything to go by this will be a very close game with few goals. Here's the record between Liverpool and Chelsea in the Champions League so far:
Played 6 games
Liverpool won 2 Chelsea won 1 Drawn 3
Liverpool have scored 2 goals and Chelsea have scored 1
It'll be a great game tonight but I can't see many goals coming.

that was without Torres!! And Torres has a good scoring streak at home, so you never know.
But I do agree with you, it will be low scoring and I think Chelsea will be playing more defensively.
Well from a neutral wanting goals perspective, its good that Lampard & Gerrard could play. It will be a more exciting game than at Stamford Bridge - that's one certainty about the ties. Don't really mind who goes through tbh
Backed Liverpool even though I think an upset might be on the cards tonight. Still think Liverpool will go through over the two legs though! Hope so anyway!!!!!:tt2:

Chelsea have had a few chances, J. Cole especially. While Kuyt has had the best chance so far, after a defensive mistake by Chelsea.. Luckily for them Carvalho managed to clean up the mess.

Babel off - Benayoun in, this may give Liverpool that finishing touch.
Didier Drogba is rolling around in agony after John Arne Riise bumps into him. He'll be stretchered off. No he won't. He manages to walk off all on his own. It's a miracle! you have to love the BBC live text commentary :thup

Im REALLY REALLY surprised at torres, he had a free run, and he messed it up.
Still, hes one of the best players in the prem.

Liverpool need to get another goal, a 1-0 lead may not be enough going to the Bridge

Yeah I know, its not as if anelka was going to get it.
Liverpool have to be the first team to win at the bridge to get through:ranting:

Cant see Liverpool getting the result needed at The Bridge.

To be honest, I don't want Chelsea to go thru. Grant is a useless manager and the results he gets comes from a few players that want to win or just plain luck. He doesn't deserve to get this team further in this competition than Mourinho has done.

We can beat them at the bridge don't rule us out yet still all to play for. :tt2:

They might have beat us if drogba had stayed on his feet the diving prick.

We can get over the own goal.
We had to give them a reason to turn up next wednesday.
We will beat them on there own turf.
They still havent scored against us in the champions league...:thup

Well for obvious reasons I dont want Liverpool going through, but it's also that they dont give a toss about the league so they can focus on Europe and rest players. Teams like Arsenal, Man Utd & Chelsea now & in the past have been fighting on 2-3 fronts and its just too much. But, excellent finish by Riise :thup
Yeah, Liverpool are still in it without a doubt. Wonder what the game next week will be like though? Will it be open and attacking with both teams going all out or will Liverpool close shop and go for the away goal. Maybe Chelsea will close up shop after all a 0-0 will see them through. Whatever happens, it will be a night of emotions and a night to remember.

I reckon it'll be 2-2 at the bridge. Idk why i just do
What goal by Riise!!!
Ref was appauling every time Drogba and Torres dived he blew his whistle bar the one time Carragher actually touched Drogba, very inconsistent the whole game and shouldn't have given a free kick in the build up to Liverpool goal.
I have money on Liverpool to win 1-0 but you can't put a price on those scenes in injury time...
I thought Chelsea were lucky to get anything out of the game. They were outplayed most of the time and relyed on high balls pumped up to Drogba. I think Liverpool will do them in the second leg.

yeah they looked so flat for most of the game and were very lucky. They have the game won now as they are invincible at the bridge - plus recent history tells you they'll win
I think Chelski will shut up shop next leg but Liverpool are always a better team when they are attacking anyway. I still fancy Liverpool though even if its a far more difficult task ahead of them now thank to Riise.:tt2:

it will be hard for Liverpool.... I don't recall where I heard it but Livepool haven't scored at the Bridge since 2004 :ninja (this must be wrong, isn't it?)

Doesn't matter, they are a better team than Chelski at the moment, I think they can do it. Besides if it has been that long then a goal at the Bridge is well overdue!!!

I think that is the worst result for chelsea (1-1 ) at 1-0 we might have just soaked up the presure at the bridge and try to play on the counter.
Now we have to go there and score so a nice end would be 1-1 after extra time and then beat them on pens.We will beat them at the bridge im sure. As for the ref i think he had a good game, stopped a lot of play- acting, Apart from the diving twat drogba with the bad hip god i thought he had been shot.
Thats my rant for now not like me but there.:ranting:
Liverpool will play something like 4-5-1 and hit Chelsea on the counter. I still fancy the Reds to go through.

Torres was almost as bad and Carragher should have been sent off. Makes me laugh when Rafa moans about the ref when he made some pretty bad decisions towards chelsea as well.
1-1 ........... told you it would be 1-1 .
