View Full Version : So Leeds are in the play-offs then...

Am I right in thinking that their 0 - 1 win over Yeovil puts them safely in the play-off positions? Looked dodgy for them when they went down to ten men, but a great save from the keeper helped them hang on to those vital 3 points.

Mr Swan must be a very happy this morning...:nod

poolie_chick
26-04-2008, 11:41
Yes, they have safely got the last play-off position and will be in the play-offs amongst Doncaster, Nottingham Forest, and Southend but only if Carlisle can keep their distance from them as they are 2nd with 79 points but 3rd is Doncaster with 77. I hope Nottingham Forest go up (but don't win today as it's against us :laugh) as they have been a very good, consistant team this season and deserve it more than the other three in the play-offs in my opinion.

Yes it does. I personally think the final will be between Nottingham Forest and Southend, but hopefully Nottingham Forest will go up. Southend are a good team but last time they were in the Championship they only lasted a season and I think Forest would have a better chance up there. The problem is, the jump in skill from League One to Championship is so much bigger than from League Two to League One that it's difficult for the teams promoted from League One to last up there.

We are still awaiting the court's ruling on their 15 point deduction. Can you imagine if they got it overturned...that would be something.

Is it likely to be a Leeds v Forest play-off then? That would be a fabulous match. Two former great clubs going head to head to escape from the diddy league. An exciting prospect.:nod

Southend also still have a very big following. I would love to see it being Southend v Forest with Forest taking all the glory. IMO, that would be the best outcome of the play-offs.

you are officially clueless- clueless team that went for a win and actually looked quite good?

useless, actually meaning having massive injury problems the likes of which "jynxed" premier league teams that get it all over the press have never seen (culminating in 15 fit first-teamers for the last 3 weeks of which only 9 were contracted to us)

average because unlike the "superb" premiershit teams can actually beat every other team

few things- 1) takeover=money=new players=playoff push
2) useless is why most of our players have been targeted by premier league/play-off chasing championship teams?
3) how many teams exactly can cope with having barely any players available and in any one game at least 2 playing out of position

Do you want to speak about useless Darren? Try your ACTUAL team, Mossley. Not just Newcastle who you randomly decided to support.

Now less of the arguing and more of the banter. It sounds pathetic, honestly. And don't bother saying "he said this" and "I was just doing this" BLAH ******* BLAH. Arguments are just ruining threads that actually had a point so if you can't discuss stuff without getting into petty arguments then don't bother discussing anything at all. Darren, I'm not getting into a petty argument with you full stop. I mentioned your team because, IN A LEEDS UNITED THREAD you felt the need to mention Sheff Wed knowing fine fact it would wind W4L up. Even now with your comment back to me, you're making yourself look like a 9-year-old child whose only defence is to stomp his feet until he gets attention. you're right, we're talking about success, so if we take out whats not been won, and competitions that aren't to be counted as european honours we are left with the following honours from europe for leeds:

yep, they've never won european competition
Fairs Cup
The UEFA Cup replaced the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in the 1971/72 season. The list of finals from that competition are listed below, but please note that the Fairs Cup is not considered a UEFA competition, and hence clubs' records in the Fairs Cup are not considered part of their European record

and ours being-

leeds can be more successfull

it's the same

unlike domestic success which shows wednesday with 4 league titles to leeds 3, wednesday with three fa cups to leeds 1 and wednesday and leeds both having 1 league cup

so- in europe both have identical honours, domestically wednesday are miles ahead

because they lost. they would only deserve it if they won. you only deserve what you achieve

poolie_chick
25-05-2008, 19:42
Well they didn't win the play-off final game today. There's a reason in itself.

They broke the rules which is why they got the 15 point reduction... yes, it was good coming back from that but they shouldn't have needed to in the first place if they were any kind of decent time.

They've been inconsistant throughout the season.

From watching them play Hartlepool twice, I can see they have a good goalie and a good striker... without them, Leeds would have played most of their games very much the average League One team, and not the team that can reach the play-offs.

gbnine
25-05-2008, 19:44

Personally, I don't think Leeds should have got promoted because of the reasons I've stated above... as well as the fact that I'd like to play them again next season :laugh

But if they did win today, then I'd hand it to them that they deserved it because if you get in the play-offs and win the final then that's exactly what you set out to do.

You say that a team can win with a lucky goal...
1. If you were deserving of promotion, "lucky goals" don't seep through.
2. You'd be able to come back from that.

Otherwise, if Doncaster didn't win by a "lucky goal", it would have been 0-0 and obviously it would have went to extra time and penalties so nobody can say who would be deserving of a Championship place next season because that didn't happen.

they wouldn't deserve it because under fl rules as a new company in the league they have to start in league 2- this wasn't followed. league 2 was their rightful place this season

and although some teams would get leniency with that veiw from a lot of people, the arrogant, moronic thugs that leeds class as fans destroy any good feeling that anyone has- that would also be the reason that despite leeds having more fans in wembley donny had more supporting them all across the globe

A lot of people judge a club by their fans. From my experience, I found Leeds fans to be ridiculously hyper and aggressive to the point where if you said hello, they'd want to smack you for it. Even on the coaches to Leeds, a guy on a Leeds bus seen our bus and stood up and started doing punching actions towards us for no reason, which I found rather bizarre. However, that's not to say all Leeds fans are like that; though, in my eyes, I do view them as smarmy arrogant and aggressive fans. But even then, you can't say that the actual Leeds club and players can be judged by their fans. Players need to have a certain level of discipline to even be allowed to play.

when donny went to collect their trophy leeds fans spat at them, as well as a carlisle fan in a service station, and a donny fan in another service station

that comes after last years pitch invasion and attempt to get at disabled ipswich fans

theres also the last 5 years before thios season that show leeds having 104 arrests and 62 banning orders in 02/03, 122 and 78 in 03/04, 173 and 128 in 04/05, 76 and 115 in 05/06 and 115 and 118 in 06/07

truly disgracefull fans that show no sign of improvement- and as mr swan believes the fans are the club the club should be punished for all of that
