View Full Version : Seeding teams in the FA Cup?
After one of the most dissapointing third round draws in recent years, people are inevitably talking about seeding teams in the FA Cup.
I suppose it makes sense as no-one really wants to see games like Manu v. Villa or Liverpool v Arsenal. It's a relatively hard match for both teams, when they could have got Salisbury and Tamworth instead. And on the other end of the scale the non-league teams want the big guns. So seeding seems obvious
I'm personally against it though just because it takes away the magic of the greatest competition in the world.
As the Conservatives say If it aint broke don't fix it. The FA Cup is far from broke and we've got to keep it as traditional as possible to retain it the magic for years to come.

I bet there's loads of fans of Premiership teams who are pleased that some of those are going out.
Seeding would go against the whole ethos of the cup, big no for me.

Thats stupid, tough challenges in the first couple of rounds can show if you have what it takes to win the FA Cup.
Credit for the non-league teams wanting to play the bigger ones, although its only for money.

I like it the way it is...if you have it all seeded then it is inevitable you will have the majority lower league teams out in the 3rd round when they could go on a bit of a run and then get a a big gun...like Colchester managed last season.
Leave it as it is i say, but on the subject of this years competition, i have found every round this year to be poor, as now there is not enough non league teams left in it for me!

allthough you'd probably find the non-league teams would get more money out of a long run against other lower placed outfits then one game with a 'big' team.. if the club doesnt really need the money, then its always nice having a big day out. on the other hand, most lower placed/non league teams DO need the money..
completely against seeding in the fa cup. it would ruin it tbh. the so called 'magic' would be lost. the lower placed teams wouldnt have a damn chance of getting further than this round, it's allready been mentioned how few reach it as it is...

only fans of the big teams want seeding so they avoid all big teams early on- if it was seeded then you may as well skip straght through to the semi's it would be so predictable
I'd prefer seeding because it means that if Brentford get into the 3rd round next time there is a higher chance of us getting a chelsea/man utd

na dont want seeding, as it is at the moe it can give smaller clubs the opertunity to get further and more money
You've got a point...as romantic as it is, it's not always fair that one mid-table club gets a money spinner strengthens the squad/doesn't have to sell and goes on to win the league just because they got a lucky draw.
