These days we can provide safe standing for people to enjoy the game how its supposed to be enjoyed, standing up. We know of the problems which killed so many at hillsborough but that was due to overcrowding, people turning up without tickets and bad policing.

With seating it takes away the atmosphere as when you sit down you become more relaxed and you don't feel like shouting as much. When we do stand up we get told to sit down and threatened with being kicked out. On todays FA Cup game between Liverpool and Arsenal they put a announcement over the tannoy telling people to sit down.

Honestly, fans pay money to watch the game, if they want to stand up let them, especially if they are on the back row.

Discuss. :)

What i find stupid for example is at the city of machester stadium, when there is a concert there everyone stands up for concerts and theres no problem, but when its football people cant stand up its too dangerous...there less likely to be an accident standig at a football game...

and whats wrong with people standing on the back row, stewards threatened to throw me out before, fucking hell i aint blocking anyones viewi was on the back row...

When you're sitting down there is no atmosphere or singing whatsoever. If you're standing it brings the game up another level and theres a buzz around the game. When i was watching the liverpool v arsenal game, when the announcer was telling everyone to sit down for the interest of the fellow supporters, you could hear a big groan around the ground. Ground are more safe thesedays then they were at Hillsbrough so something is less likely to happen. Bring back the standing.

I dont mind i quite like sitting down as the atmospher is just as good where im sat even though im too young to know what standing was like. I know theres kids near me and they can see when we sit down its not fair when everyone stands up as they cant see.

It should be brought back. When you're at a match and your team is about to score, you have a quick decision and stand up to see if they score ect. It's shit when you just have to sit there, cause if they score then all fans for that team will start standing anyway...

Bring back standing sections.

If you want to stand stand, if you want to sit sit.

Give the paying "customer" the choice.

Nothing more to add to that really.

Health and Safety gone mad. I like the stand up sit down campaign because the only problem with all standing stadiums is that short people and kids can't see and also not everyone wants to stand.

However the problem with this is that most clubs don't sell out and therefore want to group together all the fans to save stewarding costs. I think at premiership grounds they could make one home stand a standing section, then convert others if it becomes a success. They should keep away stands like it is: where people always stand up, particularly at the back if they want to.

one thing i cant stand is being stood next to some twat who insists on smoking throughout the entire match. 2 or 3 i can cope with. but sometimes its ridiculous.

i get to stand anyway.

horrah.

every pitch should have a designated "terrace"

The only problem is the away fans might get annoyed that some home fans can stand and they can't. However I've been in that situation (for example, Luton, Carlisle and other grounds) so I don't think it's a big problem

That should not be a problem. If the away fans have to sit then so be it. But One stand, behind the goal would be the ideal place to allow people to stand and watch the game. I bet you if they did this then more people would go to the games.

The only problem would be the steepness of some of the grounds these days. When i was standing at ayrsome park there was steps but not as frequent as they are at the riverside and the length of the steps (not the height) were probably twice as long.

Yes as Steve Bruce said on MOTD, it is a problem about not having enough fans at games. Surely this is the most important problem than things like diving because fans should be the most important thing as they play the players wages.

Surely the authorities need to look into this, urgently.

The reason there has been reduced is clearly more to do with prices than the standing issue.

Away games we stand all the time, never sit down. Last game I remember doing it was the unlucky loss at Old Trafford :nodyes:

Agreed but some people would go if they could stand (I got bored quite quickly of watching football sitting down, had the standing option not been available I may have given up on watching brentford) and the chelsea and manu's could charge less because they could fit more people in standing.
