Charlton and Sheffield United were both victims of FA Cup giant-killings on Saturday, while Arsenal knocked out holders Liverpool.
After all the three o'clock games on Saturday - three top-flight teams bowed out as Wigan lost the all Premiership tie at Portsmouth, to join Charlton and Sheffield United in the departures from the competition.
Liverpool then became the biggest casualties in the evening kick-off, as they crashed out 3-1 to Arsenal.
Tomas Rosicky put The Gunners on course for victory with two fine goals (37 and 42), before Liverpool fought back after half-time through Dirk Kuyt (70).
However, Thierry Henry sealed Liverpool's demise with a stunning individual goal six minutes from time.
The biggest shock of the day came at The City Ground as League One Nottingham Forest dispatched lowly Charlton.
Alan Pardew sent out his first choice side, but it was to no avail as first half efforts form Junior Agogo (28) and Grant Holt (32) sealed victory for Forest.
Sheffield United went out at home to Swansea as Neil Warnock made a host of changes - but still he will be shocked at the extent of the defeat as the Welsh side eased through 3-0.
Thomas Butler was the hero for The Swans as his brace (53 & 59) set up the victory before Leon Britton fired home from the penalty spot (67).
