View Full Version : Bigotry
Don't mean to stir up a fuss, and I've tried asking this question before, namely to superally, but I'm intrigued...
Why do you consider football to be associated with religion?
Whilst you might not have wanted Le Guen for footballing reasons, surely in football (supposedly one of the few things that is outside of politics and religion), you want the best players and best manager, whether their catholic, protestant, muslim or jedi.

All the Celtic and Rangers fans use football for is to racially abuse each other in the form or Bigotry and both teams should really play behind closed doors, especaially for the Old Firm Games. Its disgusting to hear what they should at one another.
I have two Rangers fans in my mess and they sing Bigotry songs about catholics, i'm not a catholic, I don't beleive in any religion so i just tell them to shut the fuck up as it does my head in and there is really no place for it in the home/workspace or football.

Yeah I agree with you BB, it's just football, religion should have nothing to do with it.

That fact that i am an orangeman and a loyalist has nothing to do with the fact i support Rangers!I say i dont want a catholic managing Rangers FC that is my opinion,Is that not what this nation was built on,democracy, liberty, and freedom of choice???The real bigotry has came from those who do not agree with my views! If my views didnt bother them they would just shrug theyre shoulders and think to themselves fare enough, but they are so intolerant of my right to exppress my thoughts that they kick off!!!SIMPLE AS!!!!

What's that got to do with his ability to manage a football club though?

Well obviously he never did very well at Ibrox,But me superally chose not to go to Ibrox whilst he (PLG) was in charge! Why it is a big issue to you is beyond me as it is ME and ONLY ME who was losing out!! I have held a season ticket for 30+ years at Ibrox i have one this season too,I travel 600+ miles to every home game and i rarely missed one.So yeah i love Rangers FC,but it is or was MY choice,a choice i will explain to nobody OK!!
Your just can't back up your argument. I wasn't saying he was a good tactical manager or that you weren't a loyal fan, so I don't know why you started changing the subject

As ive said before I dont care about his ability,i didnt want him at Ibrox. If you really want to know why go spend a few days in Glasgow or Belfast and experience for yourself what old firm life is like! And as your obviously so intrigued you wont have a problem doing this will you???
but don't you care about how you do on the pitch, you are a football club after all. PLG was a great manager at Lyon, isnt it more important how you play football and winning games not what goes on off the pitch. If you have a good manager (doesnt matter what religion) you're going to do well, but he couldnt cut it in Scotland. I think thats the point hes trying to make.

Is BB a bigot, going by his use of the word All it would seem so:yikes:
A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own.
Bigot is often used as a pejorative term against a person who is obstinately devoted to their prejudices even when these views are challenged or proven to be false.
Religion and football clearly don't mix, you'd thought that hooliganism, for the passion of a club is bad enough and then religion gets involved and creates even more shite.
This is why I despise religion and all it does, its an excuse for many things that may happen on this planet and the downfall to all communities and lifestyle of today.

Haven't the members realised by now that you're a bigot? I think that it should be under your avatar to prevent these pointless threads.

My intolerance is of bigots like you.
NO!!Some things are more important than football.
So Rangers Football Club is more important the football? I'm not a bigot, I don't think BB is either, I'm not intolerant of any religion, I'm just intolerant of violence and bigotry.
Also I don't need to go to Glasgow, I know how ridiculous the situation is where people use religion as an excuse to have a fight.

no wonder, i alsways have ppl telling me that religon cause the most problems, and i agree, if people followed religon i.e love thy neigbour, do to others as you want them to do to you, we wouldnt have all this trouble, people would respect others belief's
I don't think you can just say without religion there would be no problems. Everyone's life and culture is so heavily influenced by religions you can't just say that if there had never been religion none of this (wars etc.) would never have happened and the good stuff in life would have stayed. You'd get people who think it was right to kill. Perhaps the reasons most people (regardless of religon) believe in equality (not communism, but believing everyone has basice human rights and that) is because of the basis of religions...Love Everyone etc.

What you lot need to understand is i oppose the catholic church NOT the individual!!

So because you don't accept the views of the catholic church, it means you despise all catholics. Do you think all muslims are suicide bombers?

Guys please remember scotland is very much a mixed religon country
basically the whole country was brought up as either protestant/catholic or muslim to a lesser extent
In scotland we have seperate schools for catholics and protestants in every town, no matter how small
It used to be very rare to have catholics in the public school, I had one catholic in my high school out of 1400 pupils
This is very similar in Eire and Northern ireland where there is strong links between the cultures
In england the church has never been as strong as the above
The times are changing now, as more people take on an aethist view, and ignore the churchs
But if you seperate suddenly seperate little kids from there friends at a young age, by seperating by religion and sending on to a different education, of course you are going to see bigotry at the end of it
This is not just a rangers or celtic problem, its a social problem thtas evident in scotland, NI and Eire

It isn't just a celtic/rangers problem, but even in places like Iraq, football has been something that is a chance of getting away from religion and politics. Obviously the Scots, or at least old firm "fans" want to bring religion into football. No wonder we won't let you in the premiership or football league...

Personally i think the shit between rangers and celtic fans is pathetic...
I heard one rangers fan say before they would never associate themselves with anyone who supports Celtic.. what a load of shit...

There's nothing wrong with rivalry however strong, but at the end of the day whatever you say about religion, I'm an individulal, yes I'm a Brentford fan and I'll shout abuse at QPR because I don't like them because they tried to buy us up but I wouldn't dislike someone because they supported QPR or any other team.
In a similar way I'm Protestant, I have certain beliefs but I don't dislike someone because I disagree with their beliefs. It's ludicrous and as you say, pathetic.

Exactly, i shout abuse at newcastle and Sunderland fans at matches but doesnt mean i dont like them away from football... i know lots of geordies and Mackems..
People who wont associate themselves away from football with rival fans really need to grow up

Did you not read the post??
I SAID NOT THE INDIVIDUAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there something in there you dont understand???????????
Yeah there is something I don't understand. How can you fail to see that everyone is different in some way. How can you judge people's character, purely on whether they are protestant or catholic?
Since you like grouping people according to faith, I'm still interested to know what you think of muslims? Are they all extreme or are none of them extreme?

Westboy, why start this thread here anyway. It's a Scottish football forum and we are diverted away from football enough without a thread that should be in the pub being created.
If it matters so much to you which forum it's in, I'll ask a mod to move it
