From the official site:

RANGERS can confirm that discussions regarding the possible signing of Everton's David Weir are currently ongoing.

The Scotland defender is in his eighth year with the Goodison club but has been given permission by boss David Moyes to become Walter Smith's first signing of his second spell as manager at Ibrox.

Davie WeirMoyes told the Everton website this morning: "I expect David Weir to sign for Rangers today. David had expressed an interest in going out on-loan. We knew there were clubs in England interested as well as Rangers.

"But when David made it clear he wanted to join Rangers we did not want to stand in his way.

"We are sad to see him leave Everton. David has been a great servant to Everton and a model professional and everybody at the club wishes him all the best for the future."

After three years playing college football at the University of Evansville in the United States, Weir began his professional career in 1992 when he signed for Falkirk.

He spent four years there before moving to Hearts with whom he won the Scottish Cup in 1998. He left Tynecastle a year later and has spent the subsequent period as an Everton player, racking up more than 200 appearances for the Toffeemen.

He made his international debut in 1997 and last year earned his 50th cap for Scotland.
