I've been reading alot lately about the older english stadiums and their terrace sections. For those who don't know, the original stadiums had large areas where fans stood during the entire match where there was vast sections where there were no seats. I know there were terrible accidents with such areas in the past but from what I understand, and I could be wrong, but Germany still has some terrace style stadiums along with South American stadiums such as Boca Jr.'s and they don't have any problems with crowd control etc.

My point is this: read any books and everyone talks about the "true atmosphere" was with terrace style embankments where fans stood for 90 minutes and most chants/songs started. My questions is this: should MLS set aside a section where supporters could stand, without seats restricting them, to move about freely and sing/chant etc? Are there laws in America that restrict such Terrace style seating? If anyone can post some pics of such areas in Europe would help.

I'm not computer savvy but if you read "Fever Pitch" and "Amongst the Thugs" then it would give you a good idea of Terrace seating.

A good thread on Standing in the MLS, i think they should bring it in. But would the Americans want to stand for 90 mins.

seems likely, but i think they would have a safety issue, if they ever consulted Fifa on the matter

Well it would increase the atmosphere. But on the other hand, they are used to sitting down and don't have the history of standing so they don't know what they are missing really. I was lucky enough to experience standing at games and I would bring it back anyday. It keeps you awake and it keeps you shouting and singing.
