West Ham v Wigan

West Ham v Wigan

West Ham host Wigan aware that it is their form at Upton Park that will likely prove paramount in their bid to climb the table.

Alan Pardew's side have struggled to replicate last term's fine return to the Premiership and following defeat at Everton at the weekend, the pressure is again mounting in the East End.

It was, though, an improved display on Merseyside and with Carlos Tevez producing his best performance in a West Ham shirt, Pardew has reason to be optimistic.

Tevez will start his fourth successive game and will in all likelihood partner Bobby Zamora, although both Marlon Harewood and Teddy Sheringham made cameo appearances from the substitutes' bench at the weekend and are pressing for inclusion.

At the other end of the field, Danny Gabbidon remains an absentee with a knee problem, meaning James Collins will continue to deputise.

A lack of goals has been West Ham's Achilles heel for much of the season and the possible return of Yossi Benayoun will provide a creative tonic if he is passed fit following a knee injury.

If the schemer does make it into Pardew's starting line-up then it seems likely Lee Bowyer will be the man to drop out.

Prior to a weekend thumping against Liverpool and Wigan looked to have turned the corner after what was a disappointing start to the season, so it is expected manager Paul Jewell will stick with those that struggled in the 4-0 reverse.

Matt Jackson endured an afternoon to forget against the pace of Craig Bellamy but with Arjan de Zeeuw still troubled with a toe injury, the veteran continues to figure at the back.

Wide men Gary Teale and Antonio Valencia are still sidelined with hamstring complaints, meaning it is a narrow looking midfield that travels to the capital.

With an air of optimism abound at West Ham following the resolution of takeover talks that affected both manager and players, it could well prove to be a tough away day for Jewell and his charges.

COME ON YOUR IRONS! 3-0 to Hammer.

Hope Tevez will score first goal for his club!;)

sorry but I don't think you'll win. Wigan have only lost 2 games in 7, thats a good record. I see them getting back to winning ways against you, close though. I'm going for 2-1 Wigan.

This could go either way. West Ham have been very goal shy this season but its only a matter of time before they overcome that problem. With it being at Upton Park I would say West Ham have the advantage, especially after Wigan where battered 4-0 by Liverpool last week.

According to Wish FM Henri Camara will be on the bench for the Latics which will severly hamper the chances of Wigan scoring with McCulloch never prolific in front of goal and Heskey not in goalscoring form I suspect a West Ham win.

Wigan had a bad match against Liverpool and West Ham have got form at home with their superby fans. Can't see anything other than a home win.

2-0 hammers

Wigan 2 - Hammers 0. Not a good result for them. Still near the bottom arent they. how come a team can be so good one season and not sell that many players and then not be the same the season after.
