View Full Version : Pay players only on RESULTS?

Seen this on another forum.

After Arsenal's pathetic displays against Chelsea in the Carling Cup Final, followed by Blackburn in the F.A.Cup and finally Eindhoven in the Champions League I find myself having to sit through an England Goaless draw against that once mighty team ISRAEL.

The appeal of my SKY subscription wanes by the day. Sometimes I feel I am watching the wrong Channel. After all the programme 'Lost' seems more appropriate to these losers than anything involving a plane crash.

FOR CLUB WAGES:
I think it is now time to pay players only on results. If the team lose or draw they get a small basic wage, say 5% of the kind of wages they are on now. If they win they get their £50,000 or so salaries.

FOR ENGLAND GAMES:
An 'X-Factor' style phone vote on the performance of each England player. The proceeds of each phone vote to go to the England player's Charity of his Choice.

An England player's worst fear? To be humiliated on a phone vote of all the supporters.

What do you think? http://www.doubleyellowcard.com/dyc_img/smilies/bite.gif

The Club Wages is a good idea paying them less for poor performances and/or a loss or draw. Then paying them their full wages for the win.

At the end of the day, you are paying the players to perform and to do a job. If they are not doing that job then they should not get paid their full wages.

It should be like it was years ago. A good couple of hundred quid each a week. Not a good couple of hundred thousand quid a week.

Bit harsh on players who are in shit teams but trying their best every game. Why should Robinson get paid less because England didn't score (cue jokes about how he should have scored...).

I know football is supposed to be a team game, and I think players pay should be determined by results, but not to that level.

As for the phone vote it's a rubbish idea. Who, after watching the Israel match, is going to spend 50p or however much (even though it goes to charity) on voting for the 'best' england player? I don't think it would be a players worst fear being humiliated, although if it was it would not be good for team morale.

My understanding is that in most contracts they have performance bonuses. These are usually +X number of goals in a season, get more than that and you get a pay bonus. So in a sense the incentive is already there.

Although I do find some of the wages are bit overboard, if they weren't being offered in the EPL someone else will and all the good talent would leave (English or not). But that's another topic.

I think the win bonuses are peanuts compared to what there earning though. I may be wrong...
