View Full Version : Why do referees....
Who aren't performing in the premiership, get put down to a lower league? Don't the lower leagues also deserver the best ref's and not the premierships under performers?

The so called premiership refs are always the most arrogant and worst in the lower leagues. However I think all premiership refs have to do a certain number of lower league games, but I'm not sure.
That said the lower leagues are inferior so they should have the premiership rejects. Also there needs to be some deterrant for a ref not to do mess up in prem games, other than suspsension.

Ok, at each game, the referee will have an assessor and a guy called the match delegate. The assessor will mark the referee based on application of law, fitness, positioning and movement etc, the match delegate, an ex player or coach, will look at management techniques, dealing with potential flashpoints, communication with players etc.
Referees who consistently perform poorly will (in theory) face the consequences. The idea however is not to demote based on one poor showing, everyone has bad games from time to time.
Hope that answers your question.

I've had to hide behind a pseudonym as the title of referee doesn't seem to earn any favours in the world these days :red:
I'll try to answer any questions regarding law, but yes I did register blind on passing my exam those years ago.

I feel for Leicester they had a premiership reject Howard Webb today against Derby County... They had a clear penalty refused and then derby went straight up the other end and scored...

Mr Webb is no premiership reject, in fact it looks almost certain he'll be representing England at Euro 2008 next year.

Mike Dean? Seriously?
Well we all have our reserved opinions I suppose. Dean ain't bad, but he hasn't really done much European football which doesn't help his case. Webb has done a few European games, and a qualifier, so I'd say he's ahead of the game there.
I'd like to see Howard Webb do it, he seems to be a good ref from what i can remember.
Also someone like Clattenburg will hopefully represent England in a few years time once he gets experience, he seems like a really good ref.

Clattenburg is defiantely one for the future, as you say, just needs more experience. Just thought i'd make my predicition known for the FA Cup Final ref, which hasn't been anounced yet. I predict the referee wil be Steve Bennett.

Doesn't seem to be too much doubt about it on the rumour mill - but nothing's been announced yet, so could still be a surprise.

lol my prediction is Mike Dean caus remember he was selected last year to do the cup final but alan wiley had to replace him cuz hes from wirral and there was a possibility that he could've been bias toward Liverpool so i think that with Chelsea and Man utd theres no controversy over such.
Going back to the thread title, is it true that all refs have to do a football league match once every 5 matches or something?

Complete tosh mate, else Graham Poll has done far less than his share of fl matches (it seems he doesn't have to). Every other prem ref has done a few FL matches (Andre Marriner has done more FL than prem!!!) but Poll is the exception.

it's the worste thing the fa have thought up, so far we've had steve bennet, graham poll, and rob styles in the league and poll in the cup. in those games steve bennet awarded the most blatant of dives (which was also outside the box) as a penalty sending the keeper off in the process, in the league game under poll a clear handball was given as a goal against us, in the cup he only booked micah richards for slamming glenn whelan over his shoulder and onto the ground before confronting every wednesday player and mr poll, missed steve maclean being pulled from the edge of the area to the penalty spot and then instantly gave a soft penalty the other way. and even taking all those decisions out of it they were worse than any championship ref we've had this season. the only one as good (definitely not better) was styles both times we had him
if a referee can't make it in the prem, tough shit, our games are just as important as theres (possibly moreso) so why should we have ours ruined by an arrogant tosser thinking our £20 was payed to see him (news flash poll, those who still attended games that you were reffing did so in spite of you, not because of you)
