NYON, Dec 8 (SW) - Riding immense success after their coverage of the 2006 World Cup, American sports giant ESPN received broadcast rights for all 31 matches of the 2008 European Championship on Friday.
This will mark the first time that a European Championship will be aired in its entirety in the United States and the first time that ESPN has broadcasted Euro matches since 1996.
ESPN and sister stations ESPN2 and ABC will air all of the games between the three networks.
ESPN's Spanish-language branch, ESPN Deportes, will also own the nation's Spanish language rights within the USA.
UEFA were also proud to announce that deals to include coverage in Hong Kong (via PCCW), India (ESPN Star), and the Middle East and North Africa (Al-Jazeera), expanding the tournament's coverage to new levels worldwide.
This really is great news for me. Finally i get to watch soccer here in the states without a need to order an additional special channel and pay more. Thank you ESPN!!!:D
