Is football dying as we watch on TV or wait for the highlights later on.
23,000 were at the Middlesbrough v Wigan game today, on the radio the atmosphere sounded crap, maybe the people who made the club, the working class people cannot afford to go to the games, i know for one that i ca no longer afford to go to the game, £30 for a game is shocking for 90 minutes of entertainment.
Something needs doing before football dies for good.
All these foreign investors are doing MEGA HARM to the leagues, i feel people are not interested as there s no such thing as competition anymore, if you have the money then your will be successful. Well thats the way it appears at the moment and something needs to stop this from happening.
You don't need a good manager these days, all you need is money. I would love to see Mourinho at Darlington, I bet he'd do shite with them as he would have no money to do anything with them.
Basically football is collapsing on itself and no one is seeing this except for the fans who can not afford to go to games and people who refuse to go to games due to the stupid prices people pay to watch games these days.
Well for me I can't go to Boro games, I am only on £30 a week for EMA and I use most of that for college. The prices are getting too dear. I bet 20 years ago most stadiums were always full with a great atmosphere.
Mourinho is a good manager no question about that so to tag him as some lucky manager because he's at chelsea is unfair.

The worst is at lower league grounds. When I watch The Championship on ITV the grounds are empty.

No it isn't, put any manger in Mourinhos position and Chelsea will still win the league. Its not hard to manage a team when you have the players and the money to help you out. I bet you I could easily manager Chelsea. You see the players in training, watch some videos on the opponent and then that makes you choose your formation, style of play and the players. Simple really. :)

I don't notice this, every spurs game I go to is sold out. Who else does it apply to then, Boro, any else?

Last season I went to the final game of the season at Darlington. The tickets were £1 each for adults and children and the stadium was empty. I know where your coming from.

I heard the Charlton game coming up over xmas has a special offer. Buy one full priced ticked and get 4 kids in for £1. Which is excellent and it should make the ground a sell out.

Your in London so you have loads of fans with a lot of money as you get paid more so your ticket prices will seem to you, very cheap. Up north we have a lot of people out of work with poorly paid jobs "compared to down south" and the prices are still too hight.

Yeah that's true. I forgot what team it is, I think Blackburn on the 30th which halfed the price of tickets so it's £15 for adults to get a ticket.

Why were they that cheap?

Hahahaha.
So you think Jose walks in, does **** all, sends them out in a 4-4-2 then goes for a kip? Jesus wept.
He is undoubtably a talented manager and to try and besmirch him because of his resources is pathetic. He won the UEFA and Champions League with Porto a team with little resources in comparison.
You walking into chelsea and you wouldn't win **** all. You couldn't manage the ego's first off.
Why were they that cheap?
Because it was the last day of the season maybe, I don't know... Only guessing :p

I went to the Liverpool against Portsmotu game and there was only a few empty seats. Apart from in the away there was quite a few but that is understandable. Maybe it's only happening at the littler premier league clubs. Has anyone seen Wigan Athletics attendances. Shocking.

Maybe instead of blaming Chelsea or any other richer club maybe you should blame the bosses at Boro?
It's not like every single club has this problem is it?

Yeah but Wigan have not been in the top flight for a long time and the teams around Wigan Like Liverpool were being supported by kids say 20 years ago. So they have grown up now and their kids probably also support Liverpool as they have been forced to support them buy their parents.
Now that Wigan are in the Premiership, the kids of today will start to support them as they are a premiership side, so more and more people will start to support them as time goes on, but only if they are successful.

yeah maybe your right, this attacking football that was promised has not arrived or been produced. I remember about 8 or 9 years ago, when we played United or Arsenal it would be a sell out. now we have about 5,000 - 9000 spare seats at the ground.
Something is seriously wrong.

8 or 9 years ago we never had a 35k capasity stadium, we never had the 2 north west and southwest corners. But yeah, we'd have more people in the stadium. Prices need to be lowed abit.

yeah fair one, I had my season ticket from 1995 - 2000 and i know the last year we had the corners filled in, so 6 years ago then :)
Best Thing to do IS LOwer Ticket Prices and make it very cheap for kids so they'd support Boro and be able to go to the games for a reasonable Price,Celtic Had 20 K at a League cup game last month which Is very Poor Possibly the worst I can Rember At CP.
Anyway Cheap tickets would mean more people.

yeah, cheap tickets, more people supporting Middlesbrough and in turn more people buying stuff from the boro shop.

The teams that don't get a full capacity in the premiership are usually teams who have stadiums that are too big for them. It's only basically Blackburn, Wigan and Boro who don't have close to sell out reguarly but when have they ever? Apart from possibly the local derby.
To say Southern grounds are sold out and northern ones aint just because of the amount of money is a pretty poor way of putting it, Newcastle, Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd, Sheff Utd all get sell outs or near enough every game!
And Darlo being empty is just a laugh, when is a league 2 club of Darlos size EVER going to fill 25,000 seats. That chairman ruined the club with that 'venture'!

Yeah but Newcastle, Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd, Sheff Utd are only 5 clubs from how many? Obviously the money from the Rich southerners help the clubs buy success due to Merchandise and high ticket prices, thats why i think southern teams have more success than the Northern teams (CURRENTLY).

But no team below premiership level down here is full here either only the top 6 or so clubs that get the fans, everyone else scraps for the remains!

City dont usually sell out either. I blame the ticket prices and the amount of times the games get moved to different days. I cant remember the last time we had a saturday 3 o clock kick off.
This season when we played Wigan there were loads empty seats. Its only down the motoway but there was something that put people off.

It's only recently Liverpool have started selling out nearly every week, a few years back you got 32000 against Portsmouth.
Apart from Chelsea (who sometimes struggle), Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs no-one sells out anywhere near 80% of matches.
Lets be honest:
Newcastle, Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd, Sheff Utd
have been mentioned as top attendences for there size.
Now newcastle have a big north east fan base to call on.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton are three big teams and are getting what you would expect.
Sheffield United are playing in front of a crowd in a ground they can fill.
The fact is, teams like City have a stadium which has more seats than it can fill compared to when at Maine Road they had relatively more (in terms of capacity full).
Teams like Wigan haven't the fan base, same with Blackburn and some of the other North West teams all fighting for the same people.
I think it's a case of teams moving to stadiums way to big for them and some not having a traditional large fan base.

It's going to be really s**t when Everton move because we won't get anywhere near capacity except twice a season.
And a move to a ground with no history. All these new grounds are shite. Very pretty looking but just void of atmosphere.

That's my opinion on them as well, suppose at Man Utd you've got the best of both worlds - your own ground with good views.
When I can afford the pathetic season ticket prices at Arsenal, i'll go and watch them. But until then, its the tv for me.

I once went to the casino and spent nothing :)
Very luckily, because I was p***ed at the time and had a lot of money in my pocket.
One of the lads I was with lost £350, and he's a skint student like me.
