The 17-year-old, Teesside-born, winger is widely considered one of the most talented players of his generation and for many years, England's top clubs have been aware of him.
However, Porritt was not offered professional terms when he turned 17 in January, as skysports.com revealed, and Boro's decision not to try and tie him down until this summer could well prove very costly.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle are all known to be very interested - but a host of top foreign clubs are also taking a keen interest.
Lyon and Monaco were amongst a number of continental sides that took the chance to watch Porritt in action for England's Under 17s when they played in a recent tournament in Bosnia.
Now Porritt's agent Peter Harrison has confirmed that his young charge will not be staying at The Riverside and will not become, as many fans had hoped, the latest product of Boro's hugely successful academy to feature in the first team.
"I've informed Middlesbrough Nathan is not signing his contract. He is going to leave," Harrison told the Sunday Mirror.

He can't be that good if we don't want to offer him a contract? Seems strange to me.
