Not much of a match really, but is there anyone who can seriously say the Champions League is a better competition to win. For sure this season Chelsea would have loved to win it more than the premiership but that's only because they've won the prem twice and never won the CL.

Although you play better quality of clubs in the CL, it's all about how you play on the day. I'm not knocking it as a competition because I think it's great to have an international club competition and I love watching the matches, but just because you win the formula game , (team x beat team y once, so team x is definitely better than team y) your not always going to get the 'right' winner.

A league tests so many more qualities in a club. It's not just about playing well on your day, it's about pacing yourself, it's about picking up points when your playing badly and generally making the best of bad situations. I think that's why the premiership champions generally deserve to win it on the balance of play but the champions league winners are rarely the best team in the league.

Although I don't agree with most of Mourinhio's comments, he's right about Liverpool not being a big club because they are only competing in one competition. If they were a big club they would have been challenging for the title. (Although obviously their history suggests they are a big club)

BTW this thread isn't solely aimed at having a dig at Liverpool, but was just talking about this with a mate who thought the CL was a better competition to win.

I'd have the Premiership any day. The Champions League might be a prestigous trophy but winning it doesn't make you the best team. the league is 38 games and requires consistency and if you get an injury over winter where there are loads of games you will have to replace them, in the Champions League they will refresh over the winter break. Also like you said, it's about who plays better on the day, not over 9 months

If being totally outplayed in a final is almost winning it then I suppose you're right.

The league should always be your bread and butter. The champions league is a prestigious trophy but teams who like Liverpool and Milan are able to rest players due to them having nothing to play for in the league making it a bit of an unfair playing ground.

If you played a 38 game league with the best team in Europe it would be the best, but given it's just a knock-out competition then it might be prestigious but isn't the best.
