12-05-2007, 11:56

Ronaldo
12-05-2007, 13:23
2 good teams in their league, i suppose one of them could do a liverpool and field a reserve team to rest for the CL. They'd still end winning about 7-0

cliffy
12-05-2007, 13:38
I reckon one of them could win the UEFA cup.

if we got the same tv money that prem teams get then we would

westboy
12-05-2007, 14:49
The TV companies would give you as much money as prem teams if as many people wanted to watch the SPL.

Comanche_Country
12-05-2007, 16:08
well them this is a stupid topic then, yeah lets all laugh at the old firm cause they cannae win fuck all, cause there in a country with a small population, does it make you feel big

Listen, West Ham couldn't even win Dog shit.

Celtic got to the final of the UEFA cup a few years ago so it's not completely outwith the bounds of reality.

cliffy

Its possible for the UEFA cup. In the future, maybe even the CL. No one knows what the future of the SPL will be. In a few years there could be mass interest in it and loads of money might get ploughed into it.

Dunno about the CL right enough. Perhaps Dermot would blow some of his 1.4 billion fortune on us. Then again, Guinea pigs might fly:cry_smile:

speaking as a rangers fan
my response is NO

certain leagues in europe are becoming stronger year in year out, whilst others rest still and go backwards the SPl is going nowhere,

Celtic fans may disagree but non of the oldfirm are gonna win any european trophy until a major change is made

Comanche_Country

if we were let into the premier league we would have a good chance

The league in Portugal isn't particularly strong and doesn't get the financial clout of the EPL. But Porto still produced a team to win the UEFA then the CL recently. The Old firm can still get seeded depending on our co-efficient. So you can never rule out an unlikely cup run as it depends on the luck of the draw to an extent. I think it is negative to think that the OF would never again win any sort of European tournament. Unlikely, yes.

WTF???
Best was a good ulsterman!Nothing to do with the OF.

May i also say that no ALL English team has ever won anything in Europe nor will they ever.Purely and simply because they have never been good enough.Nowadays we have the English based chelsea, arsenal, man u etc who are a collection of foreign allsorts. And the BEST British side EVER the Liverpool team of the 80s,
Had a solid backbone of scots Souness Dalglish Hansen. Who was the last English manager to manage a championship winning team????leeds in 93?,everton in 87? 2 in 20 years. Quality..

Dunno. I'd imagine most, if not all were Scottish.

Dunno. I'd imagine most, if not all were Scottish.

For the record the line up that night was...
Rangers: McCloy, Jardine, Greig (c), Johnstone, Mathieson, Smith, Conn, MacDonald, McLean, Stein, Johnston.

coach: Willie Waddell.

So thats 2 scottish teams with 2 European trophies and 2 teams full of scots.
How about the Aberdeen side of 83??

Line up..

Aberdeen (coach Alex Ferguson):
Jim Leighton, Doug Rougvie, John McMaster, Neale Cooper, Alex McLeish, Willie Miller (captain), Gordon Strachan, Neil Simpson, Mark McGhee, Eric Black (sub: 87 John Hewitt), Peter Weir.

Not sure about Cooper,he may have been Welsh.

Neale Cooper was born in India but had British/Scottish nationality. Perhaps through his parents and/or place of upbringing. So thats 3 teams.
