Xavier Joins Beckham In L.A

Xavier has inked an 18-month deal at the MLS outfit and he is expected to link up with Beckham down the right side of the Galaxy side.
I'd say its a great move for him and L.A Galaxy If he keeps the form that he showed at Boro, then he'll be one of the best players in the league. Good luck Abel

First thing you think when you see a very average player going to America is that there going for the money and lifestyle rather than for football reasons. I don't know much about soccer in the US but is there actually a chance of it flourishing with Beckham and co going over or is it just a celebrity factor.

I think football is starting to flurish over in the US at the moment. I can only see more and more players going over there towards the end of their career.

But surely if it's just a retirement place for footballers then it won't. Whilst Beckhams a great player he hasn't got that much to offer on the pitch whilst he's got a hell of a lot to offer off it with is status

I think it will, with all the "big" names playing over their, more young players will be attracted to the game and they will see an upturn in new players, new home grown players and no doubt some of these will be quality. I doubt it would get as big as in Europe but you just never know.

Personally I can't see it, I don't think a sport where you get 0-0 draws suits American culture. Beckham's going to go down well there because he's a celeb rather than because he's the best footballer ever. It makes sense for older players go because of the money but you'd expect young players to do what's best for their career rather than their wallet, although just have to look at the players who have sacrificed their career for money playing at chelsea

Actually the sport is starting to pick up over here and while it's nothing compared to Eurpoe, they are making some pretty big changes here. Their adding more benfits for the teams that finish at the top and they've added a CL of sorts where the Lamar Hunt cup Winner and the domestic league winner play in a tournament with mexico's top teams. Plaus they have a couple other cup competitions with other teams in North/Central & maybe South America. They also changed the playoff system so the top 8 teams (i believe) instead of the top 4 from each division make it. I mean it's far from great, but at least their trying to make an effort. Apparently Xavier is an old fogey, 35, so i'm not sure what he can really offer them. I think Angel is 29, which isn't exactly over the hill. I think you'll see more players coming over in the following years. Plus, the MLS also seems to get players from Europe (championship and other) that can't quite cut it. Besides, you'd probably be amazed by how many players from different leagues underperform in the league
