Excellent news from the Training Ground so quickly after the Retained List was publicised earlier today.

When speaking to Andy Scott he said that he and Terry were hopeful of some news very soon.

Well the news is that this afternoon, they have signed former Leyton Orient captain John Mackie on a two year deal.

Terry Butcher said: "He's a strong leader who has captained a Club to promotion from League Two and he will be a good influence on the younger pros. He is a winner who is prepared to put his body on the line and is exactly the type of player we are looking for".

John Mackie, a tall central defender, who celebrates his 31st Birthday in July, has made 132 appearances for Leyton Orient since signing from Reading in January 2004. He originally played for Sutton United before being snapped up by the then Reading Manager Alan Pardew.

The word from the Training Ground is that we can expect another signing, all things being well, on Friday afternoon.

Don't know much about him but reading this article he's a good signing. Hopefully will be our captain next season as the one we've got now is poor.
