View Full Version : Sidwell agrees switch to Chelsea
Reading midfielder Steve Sidwell has agreed to join Chelsea on a free transfer after his Royals contract expires on 1 July. As well as Chelsea, the 24-year-old Sidwell had also been linked with moves to Manchester United or Newcastle.
Sidwell will be Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's first signing of the summer.
Sidwell, who reportedly rejected an offer of a new £25,000-per-week, four-year deal from Reading, has been a key player for the Royals this season.
I personally think his career is going to put on hold for at least a couple of years. Take your seat on the bench Mr Sidwell
If he's the only midfielder Chelsea sign then not neccessarily. Lampard's always going to start, Makalele is past it, Essien would normally start but they'll lose him in January plus unlike Lampard he isn't immune to suspensions and injuries. Mikel hasn't really made it in England. People like Parker had their careers ruined because Chelsea bought everyone in sight, but you just have to look at the squad that played in the Cup Final to realise that they don't have that bigger squad anymore.
i agree with cliffy, he's not even chelski quality. The word 'money' comes straight to mind.
Why Sidwell?!?!? do Jose want him? chairman want him? advice from chelsea players thats they want him? WTF?!? :undecided:
I bet Sidwell will be very excited...but i believe he will sit on the bench for long long time!!:nodyes:

Not really, Sidwell and SWP were both young quality players with decent futures ahead of them. Both recieved better offers but decided to opt for the wage slip. Even Iain Wright admits that sometimes on MOTD.
I meant in terms of position...

yeah i know, i forgot the delete the first bit of what you said. Anyway, I'd like to see him do well next season with competition from lampard, Makelele, Mikel, essien and co

Sidwell will only play for Chelsea for about 2 months because of the african nations, after that he will be a benchwarmer, like geremi, but geremi says he likes to warm the bench! well i would getting 50 grand a week!
