Benitez's Challenge

Quote:
Rafael Benitez was itching to start his summer spending after Liverpool's Champions League final defeat by AC Milan.

"We must spend big and spend now," the Reds boss told reporters following his side's 2-1 defeat in Athens.

"Our fans know what we need to do and so do I. We need to pay the price needed for each position."
Definitely going: Robbie Fowler, Jerzy Dudek
Likely to leave: Bolo Zenden, Mark Gonzalez, Sami Hyypia, Craig Bellamy
Will listen to offers for: Peter Crouch, Harry Kewell, Jermaine Pennant
Linked with: Samuel Eto'o, Carlos Tevez, David Villa, Aaron Lennon, Fernando Torres, Daniel Alves

I don't know if they'll let Pennant go after the CL game. I could see Pennant setting up crosses for Crouch's head. Otherwise, i think those players may go, but i could see some others too.

Benitez must have been delighted with Pennant's performance in the CL as it would have raised his price tag even though it's hardly improved him as a player.

They won't challenge for the premiership with that side. Maybe two years ago but if you look at the standard of both Chelsea and Man Utd this season they won't have a chance. If they sell Crouch for a reasonable price they should be able to get Eto'o, Tevez, Pederson and a new defender but I don't think Eto'o will be as good in the premiership and Pederson will do well but if he is first team they won't challenge imo.

doubtful Tevez would come to Liverpool, unless Mascherano convinces him to come over. Liverpool would have dish out a lot of dough, reports have figures of £25m for Tevez and Eto's price has got to be even higher than that.
