View Full Version : Premiership reserve teams in the Championship (and lower)?

That's what Benitez and Mourinho want.

It happens in Spain. They would not be allowed to achieve promotion or take part in Cup competitions.

It is believed that playing in a proper league would aid player development more than playing in a specialist reserve league.

But surely it would make the lower divisions seem "Mickey Mouse"?

Good or bad?

Pointless.

Martin Samuel said today it would mean that teams would prefer to play against these b teams towards the end of the season as they would have nothing to play for unless they were close to being relegated.

If you have too many players loan them out. Tough luck jose and rafa.

Surely the reserve teams would have more than most to play for at that stage of the season? It's that time of the year when clubs are deciding whether to release them or give them new contracts.

For some.

I can't be bothered making an argument for it because it just won't happen. I mean they would have to enter the team at the bottom of the ladder so whats the point?

Spain only has a 3 tiered league system so there is no comparison.

I'm no expert on Spanish football, but it seems to me that football outside La Liga is little more than an afterthought.

They probably think the FA will follow what the Premiership sides want and let the top few enter high up.

I'm against it myself.

I agree with it being pointless aswell. If they have nothing to play for, wheres the logical target? to improve yes but thats enthusiasm hardly going to last.
Stick to loaning players out, that way other clubs benefit from the work provided by the player and it keeps them active, simple.

I'm sure they would but I can't see someone giving up there place for a team of someone elses reserves. And surely that would just make a farce of what is the competitive league structure.

End of the day, if they have too many players sell them or loan them like United have.

This idea is disgusting and disrespectfull to the lower league sides. How can it be good for the players if they can't get promoted or win anything? It just seems to be a waste of time.

Also it would so disrespectful to the players (can you imagine SWP or someone turning up to Southend on a tuesday evening) they would only try when their contracts are about to run up and as much as I like seeing my win it's disrespectful if the opposition don't try
