View Full Version : being the a manager of a old firm team...
Celtic and rangers are the best teams in the Scottish leagues. they are the most funded and most supported in scotland.
the have the best players and best managers in Scotland, but my question is do they need the best managers, with the best players in Scotland, they don't need a brilliant managers, personally i think i could be manager of either of these teams, but if they know the formation and get the team practicing it, anyone can be manager of the old firm.

I don't think it would be that hard to manage a team. The hardest part would be to motivate the players!! Its the players that do the work on the field, without the players the manager can't do his job but the players can still play without a manager.

As PLG proved its not easy, the pressure and expections of the fans is unimaginable.
motivating players that win every week ain't going to be hard lmao

but he is French and can't speak the English language, therefore he is not a good manager for a Scottish team, on my opinion the Scottish league is a slower more harsh tackles than the premiership and PLG didn't set out he tactics to play fast football, he wanted a French masterclass which just don't happen without 11 of the top 50 players in the world

Of all the clubs, Celtic and Rangers need a good manager. Both are the most demanding jos in Scotland. By the same logic do you think Manchester United could dispense with the need for a team manager? Or is it just because of our so called 'diddy' league?
You still need a good manager..look at Chelski - they had great players under Ranieri but when Mournhio came they won the league twice. Like Superally said the pressure is going to be so high on the manager because of the rivalries and expectation.
The original poster clearly undervalues the importance of managers in football.
"OMG Why do United or Chelsea need a manager? Not hard to motivate a team that wins every week!!"
If management was that simple we'd all be one.

yeah, managing one of either half old firm is like working and living in a goldfish bowl, everything you do is watched and commented on in all the papers, the managers cannot escape the scrutiny
Yeah they do need the best managers because coming 2nd is not good enough up there. Just look at Alex McLeish, he was a good manager, had done well for the club but as soon as they went through a bad few months he was out.
well i dont think it would be too hard, manchester united and chelsea have to beat decent teams every week, no offence to most of scotland but most of the teams are as good as brighton

:LolLolLolLol: I remember PLG! how long did he stay for? He must of been a secret Tim!
to be honest I think the fact he was catholic put even more pressure on him as the old firm like to mix religion and football...

Yeah 51 championships!!!get a grip arab..
When there's only 2 competitive teams in a league just getting into europe isn't really an option.

Same as the prem really, only 4 teams there.
Not really. Next season they'll be about 6 teams competing for the top 4 and 3 teams for the title.

So what you're saying is different jobs offer different demands?

Well how many clubs in The scots prem or English one are expected to win the league every year????
If a wee club like falkirk or dundee utd finished even third it would be considered a major success for them..
What if Derby finished third in the epl??

i really dont understand why people underestimate scottish football, most people outside scotland dont watch it so how can you coment, they think they know all about it because they can base their opinion on european form.
when it comes down to it scottish football is played in a completly different style and attitude compared to the rest of europe and it makes it hard for scottish teams to change and adapt to that once or twice a month (the soft refs dont help either).
When Rangers played in CL in the 2005/06 season and made it to the last 16, we had the most fouls given against us, its just due to us changing from the scottish leage to european style.
but then we come down to the thing that our friends from down south keep forgeting...
1. you have a population of 55 million, Scotland has 5 million
2. you are very lucky you have skytv money because with out that most teams would be shite
Another reason it is hard to manage either half of the old firm is you've got the added stress that every other club absolutly loaths you and are intent on crippling every one of the 11 players on the pitch, and somtimes it is hard to beat pure determination and hatred.
so just consider yourselfs lucky you are not in our position.
If you watch any game outside the old firm in the SPL you'll notice the football is not to bad, i still say that one of the best games ive seen was the Dundee derby in 2004, an absolute peach of a game, every thing you want to see in a game absolutly brilliant

That's the way it is though. I'm not saying English football isn't lucky or is quality compared to the population, but at the end of the day it shows there is a higher standard.

I would also like to point out (this a an interesting fact) the scottish football has the highest attendance, per head of population in the world.
That's cos there's nothing else to do in Scotland:nodyes:
And it you don't have to get a mortgage to watch and SPL match

it still does cost a bit to see the spl, well for a rangers supporter anyway its usually about 30 quid for a normal spl game and the old firm games are about 35 quid.
when i was back over at christmas i went and saw Clyde v Dundee and it still cost 15 quid, and thats first division
Didn't realise how much SPL cost but First Division match is cheaper than even Brentford and were in fourth flight.

I'd rather watch brentford than anything in the scottish first division.
and anyway there is always somthing special about the lower leagues in england they are so competitive, and they have got great atmoshere to them. I would rather watch any game in the championship than any of the bottom 10 or 15 in the PL
