BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Outcry over TV kidney competition (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6699847.stm)

I find having a text vote a disgusting way to decide which terminally ill human being will get a kidney. I don't know how Endemol the company who created Big Brother can find this acceptable. Life is sacred and when someone is terminally ill it's not a time for people to be entertained.

Does anyone think this is acceptable?

In one way I think it's acceptable, and in another I don't think it is. The acceptable bit is that some ill person will get a kidney that they need, the other is the way they could be chosen. I mean, people text to help? I mean, it doesn't even matter who needs it most? It's a hard one.

This is the situation we've been sleepwalking into for some time.

It's time for people to boycott shows like Big Brother, which are the thin end of the wedge of human exploitation for entertainment. It'll only get worse otherwise.

It'll never happen though because of human nature. How many people said the latest BB was wrong with all the racism row but still watched it? People in Holland will inevitably be talking about it and it's just going to increase viewing figures.

I've changed my view on this after thinking about it - I still think the manner of the show is wrong and won't be watching it if it's aired in the UK but at the end of the day everyone's talking about it and in this case the end is more important than the means and the end result is raising awareness.

There is nothing wrong with it really, all the terminally ill people who are on the show will have agreed to it. The person giving the kidney would have agreed to it so really there is no problem. I know I wouldn't watch it though. I don't even watch Big Brother as its just people who love themselves on it.

If they're so bothered about the message then maybe they'll donate all profits to a relevant charity?

No chance of that though, because what they're really interested in is the money.

I agree with you that the way there doing it is wrong but I still think it's a good thing overall because it's raising awareness.

Well this was a hoax. The 3 people needing the transplants knew about this and the alleged woman who was going to donate was an actor. Very well done for this, they have successfully brought into the news, the need for donors.

Yeah all you can say is that it's got people talking about it...
