BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Oldham Athletic | Imprisoned Hughes set for Oldham (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/o/oldham_athletic/6703663.stm)

Even though the sentence was way too short I don't see this as a problem providing he shows sincere remorse, donates money to the family and gives time to relevant charities. I can't see that happening sadly.

For those saying he shouldn't have a second chance just look at the eventual good Tony Adams did for recovering alcoholics - if he wasn't allowed to have a high profile job after going to jail the world wouldn't have been as well off.

this is not about the fact he played for albion because if he had played for someone else then i would say the same. but this is shocking hes a murderer he left the scene of the accident put that mans family through pain and hes only wrote to say sorry to them now for parole. young people look up to footballers as idols and how the hell can you look up to him when hes a murderer i know for a fact if i ahd kids i wouldnt want them looking up to him

That's why I'm saying if he's show genuine remorse for what he's done and reforms his life he is fit to be a role model. Only think I disagree with you on - he's not a murderer that's going too far.

The definition of murder is the intentional killing of an innocent person. I'm not trying to defend him but factually you can't say he was a murderer - it was manslaughter.

What I'm trying to say is that if he were to reform his life then in some ways he'd be more of a role model than the average low-life football players these days. If he doesn't then shouldn't be allowed to play full stop.
