View Full Version : Barcelona desperate to get Henry
Barcelona have offered Samuel Eto'o to Arsenal as a makeweight for Thierry Henry, according to reports in Spain.
Spanish daily Marca claims Barca are ready to part with the Cameroonian striker plus €25million (£17million) in order to bring Henry to Camp Nou.

im having doubts over him thats all, eto'o is younger, and could fit into the team easy, him and adebayor up front, van persie wide left, it'll be unstoppable, african kings and a dutch great!
I don't know what to think.
Maybe it is time that Henry moved on, hes served Arsenal a great deal for the 8 years hes been with the club.
The logical thing to do is to make that deal with Eto'o being younger and the money side of things.
Its becoming more spoke of now so there has to some sort of speculation that he is leaving.
i hope man u will sign him

I hate to say this but it looks like a deal and if it is it might work in our favour
Wenger doesn't make too many mistakes but it's a different league and he might not be able to take his La Liga form into the premiership

I'd see if Henry was back to his proper self first and if not get rid of him, we have proved we can still play football with out him.

i wont say desperate
but Henry should jump at the chance
staying with arsenal will only help his status as a gunners legend
but not win him any more trophies
i cant see that happening
Well, this looks more possible if you read into what the papers continuously keep saying.
It’s funny how quickly things change in football. Even a week ago I would have, and did, pour scorn on all the stories about Thierry Henry leaving Arsenal. Now, I don’t think I’d be so quick to dismiss them (despite knowing how the Spanish press works) and being brutally honest I think Thierry leaving the club is a real possibility.
The Times picks up on L’Equipe’s story about Arsenal Wenger holding talks in Paris with Ferran Soriano about the whole situtation and it’s believed that he will want Samuel Eto’o as part of any deal. I am told that this is more than paper talk and if Arsene can get the deal he wants and the deal which he believes will benefit Arsenal Football Club then he will let Thierry go.
The motivation behind it remains unknown although it’s probably a combination of things including Henry’s desire to play somewhere else, Arsene’s belief that now might well be the right time to let him go especially if he can get a quality player like Eto’o as part of the deal and maybe the idea that a change is good for Thierry and good for Arsenal. That said, Arsenal hold all the cards here. Eto’o has repeatedly said he doesn’t want to leave Barcelona and Henry has three years left on the deal he signed last summer so if it’s not right for the club then he won’t be sold, simple as that.
It’s a huge shift in position from a year ago when Thierry said he would never play in Spain and this would be his last contract. Why that has happened is all conjecture and speculation but you can hear myself and the man from East Lower discuss it in the Arsecast. While it is a big deal I have to say the idea of him leaving doesn’t upset me nearly as much as it would have done last summer and I do hope that if it is going to happen it happens quickly, tidily and without any (more) bullshit which leaves a stain on Thierry’s time at Arsenal. With Barcelona concentrating on the final day of La Liga I don’t expect any big news between now and then but who knows?
If I had to put money on it right now I’d say he won’t be an Arsenal player next season.
Arsenal should sell if the offers right. Eto's a more valuable player plus they are getting £17mil. Not quite sure I believe that rumour though - they can't be that desperate.

im not hearing that rumour as much now, its more of a 18 million buy for Henry
I'm not one to read into things too much when it comes out of a tabloid but the speculation keeps popping up every few days, was also in the Independent aswell today.
Could happen, just not 100% sure.
Depends on Arsenal's finances. They always make out how poor they are but I think they do that to get players more cheaply. That said they aren't too rich after building the emirates
Well, Edelman says they have a 40 million transfer kitty to dip into. Wenger is not one who splashes out often and over the past few seasons, the money has been left over I'm guessing.

Don't see why they would want to get rid of him in that case.
Its about how happy he is at the end of the day, I wouldn't want him to go if I knew he was back to scoring goals like he did 2 seasons back!
Also who would replace him?
Hes irreplaceable, but if we were to sell him, we would need to bring in someone with experience. They keep saying Eto'o in a swap deal + money, could work.
Eto'o has never played in the English leagues and could be the next Shevchenko. Henry can be the best striker in the world when he's 100% fit.
Also who would replace him?
the sun say trezuguet could replace or could make henry stay because they are best of mates
I doubt we'll get Trezeguet, we've been 'reportedly' linked with him since Euro 2000.
