Spurs Chris Hughton on the new boy, but will he prevail?

One ex-Spurs left-back has given a big endorsement to the signing of our newest.

Chris Hughton, who of course is also our current First Team coach, is well placed to make an assessment on what attributes Gareth Bale could bring to the side. Chris patrolled the left flank in 398 games over 15 years with us as a player and he believes the Wales international has got what it takes to be a big success on the N17 stage.

"The prospect of Gareth playing for us is fabulous," enthused Chris. "He is young and I am quite sure he will have a great aptitude for learning. It is exciting for us because of the abilities he has, which I think is proved by the amount of interest in him from clubs.

"He chose to come here and it is a great plus for us. He has quality on the ball, a wonderful left foot and he has shown an ability on set plays, which are such a big part of the game.

"It is the same with all the young players we have bought in, they have an opportunity to create an identity for themselves and grow with this club and I'm sure it will be the same with Gareth."

Chris added, to use a spot of modern day marketing speak, that Gareth ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to his style of play.

"He is a good size and has decent pace. I am quite sure, looking at the type of player he is, that will also be quite flexible in terms of the positions he can play. I know he has been mostly used as a left back, but we will see how his game develops. I see him as one who can play in a few positions."

Well it's too early to judge yet seeing as he hasn't played in the Premiership, but surely the Championship is a good stepping stone for the Premiership?
