Figo 'sign me' plea to Spurs

LEGEND Luis Figo wants to finish his playing career with Tottenham - and has asked Martin Jol to sign him on a shock free transfer from Inter Milan.

The 34-year-old Portuguese star's agents have contacted Spurs officials in the last 24 hours to tell them he is desperate to come to White Hart Lane.

The veteran midfielder still has a year left on his Inter deal, but he is allowed to talk to other clubs. He was due to join Saudi side Al-Ittihad and pick up a Â£6 million contract, but that deal collapsed last week.

Now Figo has decided he fancies the idea of England and Tottenham are the only team he is thinking about, despite Bolton and Newcastle being alerted.

A friend of the former World Player of the Year said last night: 'Luis has always had a soft spot for Spurs and would love to live in London. He has seen other stars go to the capital and settle with their families.'

Figo, who is looking for around Â£60,000 a week and a two-year deal, is due to decide on his next move by the end of the month.

Inter have invited him back to see out his contract after the Arabs proved to be a letdown.

Figo said 'The door is open in Milan again and I'm very greatful.'

'I could stay for one more season, but there are other opportunites. I could even retire.'

But Â£60,000 a week for a 34 year old EX World Player of the Year is abit ridiculous. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'd like to see Figo here as he's still a good player - obviously not as good as his Barca or Madrid days but still good enough for the EPL. Doesnt exactly fit into Martin Jol's age policy though...
