Fergus McCann started the bhoys against bigotry campaign years ago and this has improved things at Celtic park to the extent that you rarely hear the 'old songs' much. Much of the bigotry problem stems from the politics of Northern Ireland. About republicans wanting a united Ireland and the Unionists wanting to stay within the UK. If you listen to most of the 'bigoted' songs, more are about NI and less about what the Vatican is doing.

1) You've already said there's political differences
2) Even if it's reducing there's still a religious element. As I just said look at PLG's treatment for non-football reasons. Even you wanted him out for his religion if I remmeber right.

If Le Guen actually did anything half decent then I'm sure the religious aspects would have been quickly forgotton. Still he didn't.

Anyway, you can't change the culture and history of a club overnight. Both clubs are engrained with the religious background and always will be. It is part of who they are.

Yeah i wanted him out,I never went to Ibrox whilst he was in charge.i never would with a catholic manager. Its bad enough they play for us.116 years without one the best traditoins and and honours list of any football club in the world.why did we ever need one?

Anyhow why is this a problem just to the old firm??

There's nothing wrong with that and I think people should be proud of being british. Call me PC if you want but I think football would be better without it [politics and religion]. As there's a place for everything and football is the place for watching your team not expressing religious/political views.

Also I'm not saying the people who go round shouting 'two world wars and one world cup' are right. I'm not saying English fans are perfect but we don't have the same problems (I know you don't see them as problems) with religion and politics coming into football as you do.

Both old firm clubs are making efforts(or token gestures?) to stamp this out.The problem is a society problem, not just an old firm one!!

I have kept my kids away from bigotry always left them to decide who they liked and wanted as friends etc.i have never got involved in that. The problem wont go away until all parents from both sides do the same.Tho it is easier down here than in central scotland!!

JESUS
I DIDNT REALLY BELIEVE THIS THREAD WOULD GO SO FAR
i only said it tongue it cheek
but let me go back to my original post
A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own.
Racism is connotations of race-based bigotry, prejudice, violence, oppression, stereotyping or discrimination, and other hotly contested definitions. it as being either superior or inferior to another race or races.
Should i retitle,
my observation was based on posts in thread like this http://www.myfootballforum.com/old-firm-63/old-firm-england-4767.html
would you like quotes
Bigotry or racism whatever, is usually a reaction to a failure to understand, accept or knowledge of others beliefs

But I am a firm believer in free speech and this seems to be getting taken away from us because of the minority who go to games and resort to violence over what can simply be said from stand to stand or in a pub. If fans are going to sing why should the football club be fined for it. This is just a song. As long as it doesn't lead to some poor guy being killed then where's the damage. Its not as if Celtic fans go home and complain that we were singing the sash at an old firm game. They simply reply with whatever song of there's is appropriate. I don't see the hartm in this.

Finally I will agree with the fact that the PL is vastly overrated due to Sky TV. Teams in the SPL can attract big name signings. Roy Keane, Paul Gascoigne, Brian Laudrup and Henrik Larsen to name a few.

I'm not saying I believe in the same things as bigots. All I'm simply saying is if people are proud of their religion and may have something against people from another religion then who am I to say they are wrong and I'm right. I'm a protestant myself but don't choose to get involved. As long as there is no violence comes from it then let people say what they want. Free speech and all that. Its getting that people can say what they want as long as nobody get offended. If you offend easily then don't listen to it. I'm sure its nothing personal.
