And it was fucking high before the McCann case..
Parent's who were allowed freedom when they were kids, are paranoid about paedo attacks on their own kids, and won't left them past the gate.
As I've said before they need to get a fucking grip!

Yeah. I think the paranoia about Paedo's is over stated(due largely to the culture of the red tops blowing it out of proportion). But it's not just that. Many areas have anti social yobs and drunken gangs. Lots of green space and playing fields are now built on. Parents have their own reasons to keep the kids close at hand.

There's are no more perve abductions now than 40 years ago.
And yet parents see a perve around every corner.

You should see around my neighbourhood, I'm pretty much the only one who plays outside. The rest of them either spend the whole day inside or or only come out when their mom or dad are with them. And I'm not talk 3 or 4 year-olds, I mean like 10 or 11. It's insane how paranoid we are these days.
Like Buffalo Springfield said:
Paranoia strikes deep,
into your life it will creep,
it starts when you're always afraid,
step out of line, the man come and take you away

Child abduction: understanding police recorded crime statistics (http://www.crimereduction.gov.uk/violence/violence12.htm) that site says "Yet the total child abduction offence numbers police recorded increased by 45% in 2002/03 from the previous year, to 846 offences" that seems to tell me there is,
It's very sad but you can't blame the parents if you look at how shit this world is.
Disgraceful, I read this the other day and apparantly most of the OAPs interviewed said that kids shouldn't be allowed out on their own untill they 16, how sad. Lmao.

It's a lot more publicised now though. Not a day goes by where some newspaper doesn't report a kid killing themselves cos they got bullied, or a kid going missing cos some sick old pervert took them, or a kid getting ran over by a bus... it was only a few weeks back that a 15 year old girl was ran over by a bus and killed here.
I get what you're saying. Some parents CAN BE overly paranoid. I know some parents who still want their 16 year olds to be back at home for 10pm. And sometimes, if you give your kids a bit of freedom, they become more street-wise to the likes of bullies and learn to deal with it better. However, if I was a parent, with all the negativity involving children's safety lately, I would have restrictions on what my child could and couldn't do alone, and there would be no over stepping the line, for the simple fact is, there are perverts and bullies and smackheads all over and you can never be too sure that your child isn't the one that's going to get abducted or come home with a black eye.
you have to be safe instead of sorry but children need other children to develop social skills, good question.

Exactly! Got it in one.
Not saying we should give into it, but when you see kids getting 'snatched' in what is supposed to be one of the safest places, then it's only natural to worry about your kids I guess.
In all honesty I can't really comment because I'm not a parent...

Jesus that's a depressing post. Snap out of it, it's not that bad.
I'm not feeling that depressed actually but I can reading/listening to the news I can see why parents are nervous.
If I was on a 24 hour a day diet of Crimewatch I'd never go out.
Parents shouldn't judge the world on a news report.
Peace.
