been no smoking here since april, its really good, much nicer when going out for a meal
Even though I don't smoke I was sceptical about this at the start because I think people should be able to smoke in pubs as it's part of the 'atmosphere'. I've never agreed with it in restaraunts, but in my local they don't serve food (apart from sandwiches on matchdays) then I don't see why people shouldn't smoke. If non-smokers don't like it they can go to a non-smoking pub.
I think the whole thing would be better if pubs could buy smoking licences with money going to NHS then those who smoke go to smokers pub and those who don't want to don't. If they're worried about every pub being smoking pub (which it won't - alot of people go out more in scotland and wales since the ban) then limit the licenses.

Mate i just came back from Scotland, and trust me don't listen to the spin, Bars, clubs and working men's clubs are shutting and people are losing their jobs due to this. It's driven people into drinking at each others houses. So that spin is bullshit.
I think in restaurants, i am 100% in agreeance with, but clubs and some pubs i believe you should still have an area, also if your a delivery driver, you can't smoke in your van, can you imagine that.
Isn't there a thing you can set up outside a pub for the people who smoke to go in when they want one?

ok out in the sticks, but go to a big city, and there's never normally room
Excuse my ignorance, but are you going to be allowed to light up in the street then?

Probably not...
Of course you cn smoke in the street. Its only enclosed public places that you can't.
Right. They're going to make alot of money fining people for dropping cigarrete buts outside pubs...
what about football grounds
It's discrimination against smokers. :ranting:
my local they are building a large smoking shelter with plasma ,heaters, lights and alarms its great i dont smoke but still looking forward to it for the atmosphere
what about football grounds
:hahaha: Football grounds are allowed no smoking places, well most are.

In my opinions if that counts for anything. They should have a rule where pubs can choose to be smoking or no smoking. It is part of the atmosphere and if there is a pub where people smoke I will still go into it as it adds to the atmosphere.
I am against smoking and its awful diseases but I will still go into a smoking pub. banning it from all the public places is harsh but its good. The benefits for me is not stinking of smoke the next day which to be adds to me being sick!!!!
But i'm happy with the no smoking policy.

The Riverside has been non smoking for at least 5 -7 years. In the seating area. you can still smoke when queuing for a beer or pie, but not in the seating area.

Nope, all of the stadium is a no smoking area, there's a yellow line going round the outside of the stadium, you're not allowed to smoke inside it, so that includes all of the stadium.

You not allowed to smoke anywhere in ther ground..people started doing it at half time in the bogs..and people were getting kicked out of the stadium for it..
Personally i think pubs should be able to choose whether people can smoke there, but places where theres food i would like to think any smoker would have the decency not to light up anyway..
Disgusting habit anyway..i myself know what its like to have breathing difficulties.. people want to have that when there older keep on puffing..
what about football grounds
nope. Brentford used to have smoking stands but now their non-smoking which is going to be strange going to the match and not smelling smoke in the pub or the ground (although undoubtedly we still will). End of an era an all that...
No smoking on July 1st is f*** great!

YESSSS!!! Roll on July 1st.
I think you can still light up in the street though, but you get fined if you stub it out in the street, or so somebody told me at least. Just roll on the day when smoking is illegal in Britain, which won't be for years and years cos stupid Britain (which isn't so stupid) earns too much of cigarettes :(

What would you think if they made alcohol illegal?
Think the smoking ban's a good thing myself, the only time I occasionally smoke is when I'm on the piss, so I'll never wake up with lungs of a 70-year-old again. Just the liver of one.
Its funny that there taking this sort of action on cigarettes as apposed to the ever so common marijuana.

Can't see them letting people smoke a crafty spliff down the pub though!
It's smoking ban not tobacco ban...
Can't believe the government are getting worried about people DRINKING IN THEIR OWN HOMES now. Unbelievable...

They are introducing similar rules here, i dont care really, but the only thing that is killing me is the smoking ban in night clubs, that sucks especially for me cuz i don't drink, i bet everyone will sneak into the toilet to smoke just like back in the high school days.

I think they will have people put into the toilets, or cameras put in to stop people from doing that. I can't wait for it to be brought in, will be much better. In the way that I won't reduce my risk of getting smoking related diseases and I will not smell of the disgusting stench that comes with smoking.

Good, I'm glad you won't be able to smoke in it. Its a dirty habit, yellow hands, yellow teeth, yellow pub, stinking smell.
Like you said, you chose to smoke, I chose not to. Why should I have to breath in your second hand smoke. Its not right really, I still would go into a pub if it was full of smoke and I still do tbh, but I would prefer it not to be smoky.

So how about flying??
Fact A jumbo jet taking off from an airport causes more air polution than 20,000 Yes twenty thousand people smoking 30 cigarettes a day for 10 years.
Sanctimonious shit!!

The jet pollution rises into the upper atmosphere whereas someone's smoke in a pub goes straight to your lungs. The jet pollution is contributing to global warming but then you've argued against that in the past. You can't compare those two.
I'm not really fussed about the smoking ban. I've been quit for a few weeks now but even when I did smoke, I wasn't really bothered. The only thing that concerned me was not being able to smoke in pubs and clubs. In restaurants I can totally understand. I never once smoked in a restaurant anyway. I think it's disrespectful to people eating.
i think non-smoking lokation ok if ther is a smokers-zone!!!

In Austria the law hasn't been passed yet but there is no doubt that it will. I am horrified thinking about what this might do to my father's business who owns a bar in Vienna. However, friends of mine who own a pub in Germany - where the law got into effect July 1 - say that there really is no downside to it yet. People are very disciplined about it and the numbers are stable which somewhat surprises me. I still think that the Austrians will not be so gentle about, they are strange people who don't like having things forced upon them.

A few pube around my way had been seriously dead while we had the rainy spell, the only saving them at the minute is the decent weather, that wont last long.
And the non smokers should fook off inside the pubs and stop hogging the tables outside, they wanted smoke free pubs well they got em and should use them, tossers.

Why shouldn't the non smokers enjoy the sun as much as smokers? The same smokers who didn't give a damn when inflicting their filthy habit previous to the smoking bans.

I am not a smoker and do not enjoy the smell of tobacco smoke, but I do think it should be up to the bar owners as to whether they allow it in their businesses or not, same for private clubs.
If you don't want to smell smoke or be around it, then choose a different bar/restaurant. Simple as that. I just think the owners should have a say in it, especially for bars.
