The Church of England is seeking legal action against entertainment company Sony for featuring Manchester Cathedral in a war battle computer game.

These god lovers need to get a grip. What is wrong with using the inside of a cathedral for the game. Didn't know the inside of churches / cathedrals were copyrighted.

Honestly what is the problem?

Well the people of the church follow a fictional book so why not have their place of worship in a fictional game?

I just saw it on northwest tonight. Can say I kinda agree with what they're saying, place of peace blah de blah.

On the other hand, it's only a game. Shame the news made the PS3 look utter crap.

As I said on a different forum:

I can just see it, a new Tekken game, the main arenas are in church's and cathedrals, it's the Christians vs everyone else, you get to blow everything in it up with Sony management having tag-team matches with the Christians, what a brilliant game....

Anyway to the point, it is only a game. Why complain? Do the people at the Church ever play video games? http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/images/smilies/erm.gif What a total ****e reason to take legal action against.

I wonder who told them.

"Hey Reverand check this shizzle, I'm up to the 4th level and My God bless my soul, we're in our cathedral! RING THE POPE!"

I doubt they would ever win if they took it to court.

How could they?

Why do people get offended by absolutely everything these days. I think some people do it just for attention actually...

It's daft anyways. It's only another place in another part of this world... loads of other places have been put on computer games and you don't see people complaining. What gives them the rights to say that it can't be put on to the computer game, it's meant to be a community place yet it can't be fictionalised. Stupid.

If my house was in a game I'd tell everyone and be proud. If my church (Griffin ParK) was on shooting game I'd buy it...

It actually still belongs to them though innit.

It's just a matter of being asked to use something. Sony says they did and if they did no issue. If not, out of court settlement with the Church getting a fair wedge of money which will make them happy.

To be fair I think the church are making a meal of it but whats the point in computer game company doing something that is deliberately going to upset someone.

Thing is, to some people the Church is like their family. I'm sure no-one here would like to see their family disrespected in a computer game.

:drool:i want that game(and console).

besides what are they going to ask for?

money for damages? nobody's reputations, life, or well being has been affected by having a recreation of the church in the game...

plus 99.99999% of the players of this game won't know that it's manchester cathedral, and will not care either.

I agree with RedRabbit... plus, it's a public place so it's not like it's any one person's property as such is it.

It's the property of the Church of England.

Yea but I mean it's still a very public place... it's not it's someone's actual home or anything... besides, it's not exactly there with the intention to offend is it, otherwise the reaction would be well justified.

It's as good as taking a photo of a park or something, then the council going mad...a public place is there for the public to do as they wish for as long as they're creating no damage physically or mentally, and I very much doubt Sony put the church in the game with the intentions of offence.
