Qualified refs please keep schtum for a while.
What do you know about the laws of the game? Most people think they know all there is to know, in reality they don't.
What do YOU know?
No cheating please http://www.thefootballforum.net/forums/style_emoticons/default/thumb.gif
Section A - General
1. What is the minimum number of players an 11-a-side team can play a game with?
2. Which five s's are the standard player equipment?
3. What is the minimum height of the corner flag?
4. What is the maximum length of the field of play?
5. What should the circumfrence of the ball be (in centimetres)?
Section B - Multiple Choice
6. Which of the following is a sending off offence?
a) Goalkeeper deliberately handles ball outside penalty area
b) Persistant infringement of the laws of the game
c) Player spits at a teammate.
7. True or False? Referee blows for full time. Before he finishes blowing the whistle, the ball crosses the goal line between the posts. As the referee hasn't finished blowing the whistle, the goal should stand.
8. A youth league reduces playing time to 70 minutes instead of 90 minutes. In a match, the two managers decide to give the teams experience of real play time to play one half of 45 minutes (normal) and one half of reduced time of 25 minutes. They approach the referee with their plans. Should the referee accept the proposals? Why?
9. True or false? A player must have shin pads which leave no more than 3cm of the shin showing in order to give adequate protection.
10. An under-13 player commits a foul which denies an obvious goal scoring oppurtunity. Taking into account his age, the referee opts not to dismiss the player, and caution him instead. Is the referee right?
Section C - You're the ref
What would you do in the following scenarios? Note, not all questions have a correct answer. We are looking for an answer which could be backed up by law, would keep positive control of the game and which would be a likely outcome should the scenario happen. We are not looking for letter-of-the-law answers so to speak. If you give adequate reasoning for your answers and they are correct by law, you will score the points.
Scenario 1 - At a penalty shootout
Player takes a penalty hits the bar and then hits the goalkeeper who has dived about 2 yards in front of the goal and goes into the net. Is it a goal or not?
Scenario Two
A corner is taken and as it comes into the penalty area the goalkeeper pulls down the shorts of a striker
What do you do???
Scenario Three
a player taking a corner uses grass cuttings to make a mound and places the ball on it. As a referee what do you do next?
a) Caution him for USB and remove the cuttings
b) Have a word and remove the cuttings
c) let him carry on
Get your answers sent to me, and I'll reveal the answers by Saturday, see who came out with the top score!
Good luck!
