It seems to me that Boro are one of, if not the, least rated teams in the league, despite the fact that over the last ten years they have had more success (measured in Cup finals and Cup wins) than anyone outside the current top four.
Fair enough, our style of football in recent seasons has been poor, dull to watch. Fair enough, we 'propelled' McClaren to the England job (which is a reason enough in itself to hate us!). But, if I try and sit on the fence, Boro ARE a small town club who other teams outside the top four should like; Boro's reputation against the top four in the last few seasons means we show how mid-table teams CAN beat Man U home AND away in one season.
As for Boro fans who claim we are the biggest in the Northeast, they are lining themselves up for it; we are not the biggest in terms of the fan base. If we're being realistic, Newcastle are a sleeping giant and soon will reinstate themselves. Fair enough, we finished higher, but talk of being 'bigger' than Newcastle is stupid. However, the rivalry is good for both teams.
As for Boro 'nailed on' as relegated, I think people who write on these boards shouldn't be so biased. From a purely footballing point of view, Boro's defence is good; Woodgate would have a good chance of getting into ANY team's defence. With some signings in midfield and a bit more creativity, we should be assured of keeping our Premiership status.
If you want to come on the boards and mouth off, at least mouth of about deluded supporters/obscene wages/Chelski/the fact the Premiership is two leagues, rather than some bias opinionated drivel. It's not like us smogs claim we'll get in the CL!!
I agree with him on some of the stuff he says, but I wouldn't say we were a small team, we are currently better than Newcastle and have been for a few years now, not by much though and this season will be a great one for the 3 North East teams.
So why do people dislike Middlesbrough, is it the fans, the boring football we usually play or the area?
