View Full Version : Very Important Poll

Please take this poll as it will decide weather we keep the old database or keep this one and start a fresh. We have not started a fresh since 2004 and we really shouldn't have to but i think its would be a good move to get everyone to sign up again, with 0 posts and to foget the past.

Please take the poll

I make it a fresh start, nice to start off fresh again to hopefully clear this all up :)

We shouldn't start a fresh because then this is 'just another forum', if we restore the database then there we'll be just another forum and members who post occasionally will not bother as they can't be arsed to sign up.

Also people might be put off joining as there are less posts and members on the forum.

You really should think hard if your going to start afresh BB, it shouldn't be decided by 6 members who vote on a poll.

well I have been thinking about starting a fresh for the past month, and i think it will be better for the forum. We can then forget the past and start to re-build the forum. So this is not a decision i've just thought about.

Ronaldo
02-12-2006, 18:57
So what happened to you cant restore the database because everything got deleted and there was no backup?

FourOneFourOne

Maybe a fresh start could be better achieved by just unbanning everyone who was banned at the old place?

yeah, i see where your coming from. Im starting to think it might be a good idea too. The site is running so much faster now also. Maybe one suggestion would be to only allow avatars and no sigs, or atleast place a rule which would restrict sigs to a maximum size of 550x170, which is usually the default rule on most forums. This would also help to keep the speed up.

FourOneFourOne
02-12-2006, 19:00
Yeah, it's a much easier place to hang around on with the faster speeds.

For me if you want a good forum and the forum to progress, Then for a start you need to listen to the members I.E Why not remove all the adds? Start up again is probably the best Way I think Mabe even change the skin, Just My opinion.

Yeah i'll probably change the style in the summer time. But we could start working on it soon so it gives us time to get the style just right. Maybe even blue!! You never know. I do listen to members, but i can't please everyone can I, if i agree with one person, and not another then the one i didn't agree with starts posting saying i don't listen to members, for me this is a catch 22 situation.

I know i'd be contradicting what I previosuly said but you could revive the old database or whatever and just have a good clear up, atleast then it'll give you the alternative for giving MFF a proper clean out.

boro_boy
02-12-2006, 20:23
well the forums running very fast at the moment and I feel the old site had a very very bad vibe about it. A fresh start will truly move the forum forward.

But thought you may have been able to bring the members data over.

i Think its exciting starting afresh. A new start for (nearly) a new year. I also think that post counts can make new members feel intimidated and therefore not post like ther not part of the boards.
I have also noticed there have been more discussions recently than the last few months i have been posting on the "old" so to say MFF.

I just had a look, it looks like it's better. We're 7th down on the list, on the old mff we were on the 3rd or 4th page

i want the past back
its part of history so to speak
why ditch all that has took place in past few years
well u know what i think

boro_boy
07-12-2006, 18:45
Yes I see where you coming from almouchie but we decided to restart the forum with a fresh start due to the bad vibe on the old forum. The current situation is very good, the forums are busier and there are a lot more posts that are being posted compared to what there was on the old site.

Yes we have lost or decided to lost 372,000 posts. Which took 2 and a bit years to create, but to be honest about 90% of those posts would never be looked at and would be burried with time. So only about 10 if that, were posts that were looked at or replied to within the month.

I think we need to look to the future, which we are doing and start the site again. I feel it will be for the best and 2007 is going to be a good year for MFF, 2006 has been an awful year.

Gizmo
07-12-2006, 23:57
Understand mate but thought you needed X number of posts to get on big boards? Or have you given up that idea ;)

FourOneFourOne
08-12-2006, 16:41
Would Big Boards not include MFF if we had evidence of the previous number?

Craig

Nope, you need to have 500k on the forum itself.

boro_boy
08-12-2006, 19:13
I'm not too fussed about it at the moment, all i want is to get the forum "active" again, were doing ok at the moment also which I'm very happy about.

Ronaldo
29-12-2006, 13:34
Sorry for bringing this up again :o

I was just looking aroudn Big Boards, have the rules changed?

There are loads of football/soccer forum under 500,000 posts. there's a Juventus forum with onlt 37,000.

RedRabbit

from the FAQ:
Some boards on your list don't have 500000 posts. How come?

These boards had the 500000 posts at some point, were included in big-boards by then and for some reason lost part or all of those posts (server crash, hacking, pruning). We keep track of these boards although they do not fit the requirements anymore.
