Strip Launch
United have just launched new home and away strips for season 2007/08, continuing the club’s very successful relationship with hummel as kit supplier, Anglian Home Improvements as the club’s main sponsor and shorts sponsors Ole International.
The new strips are a first for the club in that they are based on a fans’ survey that took place towards the end of last year, the home kit being a clear winner among the fans who responded. The strips are therefore unique to the club.
The replica strips will be available in the club shop and online from July 10.
Pre-sales are now being taken at the club shop and via the official website.
First team players Greg Cameron and Steven Robb were on hand to model the new strips.
Dundee United Marketing Director, Stephen Thompson, said, “All at the club are delighted with the new strips. The fact that we consulted our fans shows that we do listen and work with them, while working alongside our kit supplier hummel.
"Last year was our first full year with hummel and we were delighted with sales of all our replica kit and leisurewear.”
Flood Rolls Into Tannadice
The club was able to confirm this week that 22-year-old Dublin-born midfielder, Willo Flood, has joined United on a one-year loan deal from Cardiff City.
Craig Levein, who first tracked the Irish Republic under-21 internationalist as a starlet at Manchester City, feels his style of play is better suited to the SPL than to the hurly-burly of the English Championship, a point reinforced to Willo by his Cardiff team-mate Steven Thompson.
The gaffer, who was delighted to secure his services ahead of other interested parties, is sure that he will add quality to the Terrors’ squad, adding that despite his slight stature, “he does not lack aggression and is not afraid to get involved”.
Willo is strongly motivated to play more first team football on a regular basis as, although he played 25 times for Cardiff last season, he rarely started matches. He joins a growing Irish fraternity at Tannadice and already knows Jon Daly and Sean Dillon. You can catch his first interview with the club on ArabZONE.
Derby Opener for United
The Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League fixture list for 2007-08 has just been published and everyone at Tannadice is excited at the prospect of the season opening with a north-east derby game at home against New Firm rivals Aberdeen. Following the six-goal thriller at Pittodrie which we won at the tail end of last season, there is no reason why United should not be optimistic about securing that rarity in recent seasons - an opening day victory.
The Aberdeen game is followed by a series of matches against the lesser lights of the SPL (on paper) with the Old Firm and Hearts being met in three out of the last four fixtures. This gives United the opportunity to build up a head of steam before this tough final sequence.
The fixtures over the festive season are kinder to travelling Arabs than of late with a Wednesday Boxing Day game against Celtic at Tannadice sandwiched between weekend matches against Gretna at home and Motherwell away.
The full set of fixtures can be viewed on the SPL website and United's on Dundee United FC - (http://www.dundeeunitedfc.co.uk).
They are of course subject to change depending on UEFA competition commitments and the requirements of Setanta.
Young Players Gain International Experience
Last season saw our various youth teams play against clubs from seven different countries – as well as matches in which our Under 19s played against the Russian international team during its Winter training camp in Cyprus and the Under 14s against the Faroe Islands at the Aberdeen International Festival.
Following the recent matches we played in Brittany, our other foreign opponents in the last twelve months now include Stade Rennais, Lorient, Vannes OC, EA Guingamp and several Breton club sides (France), Standard Liege (Belgium, pictured), Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia), Gomel (Belarus), Tjensvoll (Norway), FC Twente Enschede (Holland) and Aris (Cyprus).
Barcelona Programme Ads
Based on the unprecedented interest in the forthcoming match v Barcelona, the Club has decided to bring out a commemorative programme to celebrate our fifth meeting with the Spanish giants. The Commercial team have managed to acquire some pages in the programme for advertising purposes, and a number of companies have already booked their space.
Based on a number of requests from supporters, it’s not just businesses who can take up these spaces. The sales department have been inundated with requests from fans to have a photo of themselves, their family, or even their pet in the Barcelona programme. As a result, you can also have a picture, and a message of the same dimensions instead of an advert.
