Striker linked with Boro switch

Gareth Southgate insists he is looking to sign 'quality players' this summer, with Bobby Zamora the latest target for Middlesbrough.

Having lost Mark Viduka to Newcastle, Southgate is looking to bring in big name players to bolster his squad and appease the fans as Boro look to better their last season's league position of 12th.

Zamora is the latest name being linked with a switch to the Riverside, with the former Tottenham and Brighton ace looking set to leave West Ham this summer.

Boro are said to be one of four sides chasing the 26-year-old, with Fulham, Blackburn and Everton also thought to be considering bids for the striker.

Speaking about his transfer plans, Southgate said: "I think there's been some concern among the supporters, but it's not about the squad we have now in June, it's about the squad we have when the season kicks off.

"We're already making progress and I'd just ask the fans to bear with us and trust us."

I dont really know whether this would be a good signing or not.. he had a great first half of the season for West Ham but not so good second half.. maybe on the cheap we should take a gamble..

I don't see the point in getting rid of Yakubu and buying Zamora.
