SV Zulte Waregem will look to defend their second-placed slot in Group F as AFC Ajax cross the border into Belgium on Matchday 5.
• Zulte Waregem beat FK Austria Wien and AC Sparta Praha in their opening two games before losing 6-2 at RCD Espanyol. They could finish top of the section if results on Matchday 5 conspire to erode Espanyol's three-point lead and massively superior goal difference at the top of the section, while defeat against Ajax would see them finish third.
• After a win against Austria, a draw against Sparta and a defeat by Espanyol, Ajax are third in the section, and will confirm their progress to the last 32 with anything but a five-goal defeat against Zulte Waregem. A win would see them finish second.
• The side finishing top of the section is guaranteed a tie against one of the third-placed finishers from another group in the draw for the Round of 32 on 15 December, while each pool runner-up will meet one of the third-placed finishers from the UEFA Champions League.
• The two sides have never met in European competition, and Ajax have never played a competitive game against Zulte Waregem's predecessors KSV Waregem.
• Two Zulte Waregem players have experience of Dutch football. Goalkeeper Geert de Vlieger spent four and a half seasons with Willem II, while defender Chris Janssens spent two seasons with the same club.
• Ajax boast Belgian talent in the form of defender Thomas Vermaelen and midfielders Jan Vertonghen and Tom de Mul.
• Neither Zulte Waregem or KSV Waregem have ever come up against Dutch opposition in European competition.
• Ajax have played nine European games against Belgian opposition – three two-legged ties, two UEFA Champions League group stage games and the final of the 1987/88 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, which they lost 1-0 against KV Mechelen at RC Strasbourg's La Meinau Stadium.
• In total, they have won five games against Belgian opponents, drawing once and losing three times.
• In Belgium, they have won once, drawn once and lost twice.
• Belgian and Dutch sides have played 41 times in UEFA competition. Surprisingly, the Belgians hold the upper hand at the moment with 18 wins to Dutch sides' 17 and six draws.
• In Belgium itself, the home side has won 14 encounters with three draws and four wins for the Dutch visitors.
• Espanyol play Austria in Matchday 5's other Group F game.
