HAMMERS BID TO KEEP TEVEZ | News, Fixtures, Results, Match Reports, Stats (http://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=soccer/07/06/17/manual_094345.html&TEAMHD=soccer)

West Ham striker Carlos Tevez is reportedly on the verge of agreeing a new deal to remain at Upton Park for next season.

Hammers chairman Eggert Magnusson is desperate to keep the Argentinian star after his heroics almost single-handedly kept the club up last season.

The deal for the 23-year-old to remain in east London for a further campaign would reportedly cost a huge £9million, but that figure will not deter Magnusson, who saw a big-money swoop for Charlton's Darren Bent fall through last week when the England striker decided against a move across the capital.

Liverpool and Manchester United are known admirers of the playmaker, while Inter Milan are rumoured to have made a £32million bid.

However, a "top source" told the News of the World: "Mr Magnusson has pulled out all the stops to keep Carlos for at least another season.

"The package will cost £9million in wages and payments to his owner Kia Joorabchian but the chairman is convinced the deal is done."

He added Magnusson wanted to "do whatever it takes to make the fans happy".

===========

It would be good for West Ham but does Teves really want to be playing in the Championship? I don't think so.

West Ham aren't in the championship. They're playing all 19 other premiership teams twice at time of writing.

I said before he wouldn't stay but if he doesn't get any premiership offers, he's made his mark at West Ham. He's settled in, the fans love him and maybe he doesn't want to move out of his comfort zone. I think it would be refreshing to see a top player stay at a smaller club (i.e. not Manu/Chelsea) and good for football.

Let's hope West Ham stay up!

I didn't say they were in the Championship. I hope West Ham go down :). At the end of the day they cheated didn't they. If they stay up then that sends out a message to other clubs that they can get away with small fines for cheating. Yes 5million is small compared with that they make and get of the rights from fixtures and tv rights.

Actually they were given a record fine and the way you say it is as if they paid £5million to stay in the premiership when they weren't good enough, but actually they stayed up because Curbishley managed to turn it around for them.

If Sheffield United played good football they wouldn't be in the Championship would they? They are down because they fucked up at the end of the season. Seeing West Ham's situation at Christmas Sheff Utd should not have gone down. West Ham played there way out of trouble by winning - something Utd struggled to do. It's there own fault they are down, not West Ham's.

I think tevez will stay anyway for one more season.
