The new qualifying system will be in place for the upcoming 2010 WC.
13 spots are up for grabs from the 53 participating nations. The new system will have eight groups of 6 and one group of 5 teams. The winner of each of group qualifies automatically while the runners-up will go into a playoff for the remain 4 spots.

This a bit better than the previous groups of 7 and 8 teams. Plus it will make nations get their full squads out given that every match counts more.
