Arsenal have swooped to sign Croatian international striker Eduardo da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb.

The 24-year-old, who scored against England in a Euro 2008 qualifier in October, has signed a four-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal say the fee is undisclosed, though Dinamo president Mirko Barisic said it amounted to £16.25m.

"I am sad to leave," said Da Silva. "But I'm happy too, since Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Da Silva is the first signing for Arsenal since the departure of Thierry Henry to Barcelona in June.

Henry's move to Spain had left Arsenal with Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor as the only senior strikers at the club.

Nicklas Bendtner is poised to make his presence felt next season after spending the last campaign on loan at Birmingham in the Championship, and now Da Silva will also press for a place.

Da Silva moved from Brazil to Croatia at 15 and took nationality at 22. He has scored seven international goals.

He scored the first competitive goal at the Emirates when Arsenal beat Dinamo Zagreb 5-1 on aggregate in last season's Champions League third qualifying round.

And he finished the Croatian season with a record 34 goals.

Another unknown under the hands of AW, could be a great player in future.

Needs to be given that chance and experience in the Premiership before we judge how good/bad he is.

he's got a pretty prolific scoring record, and you may say it's only the croatian league, but people said that about henrick larrson at celtic, yet he still scored when he went to Barcelona

I am optimistic, I think he will be a great asset to our team in creating and converting goal chances
Thank goodness we only borrowed Baptista and could give him back

Last season he scored 37 goals in 36 games, pretty impressive.

Could well be of good assistance towards RVP and Adebayor.
I also believe that now AW is back from holiday, we may see some movement in the transfer bracket.

His record is amazing. nearly a goal/match. If he can perform for Arsenal like he has for Dinamo Zagreb then we have found a diamond in the rough.

I can't wait to see him in action.
