Just wondering what everyones thought are on how the old firm will get on in Europe this season?
Personally I think the future looks bright with both teams managing to reach the last 16 in the last 2 seasons. Each team has a fair amount of players with European experiance and tthis, I feel can only bode well for all concerned.

I hate to be negative but I can't see either making the last 16 this year. Both have benefited from better co-efficient rankings over the last two seasons. Celtic managed the second pot last year. This year if both get through Celtic would be pot 3 and Rangers pot 4. We'd have to be very fortunate in the draw.

Personally i dont like the seeding system.
Throw all the names in a hat like the FA and Scottish cups is what id prefer.
Fairer too.
i think it could be a miserable effort this year especially my lot

i think Celtic will be the ones who pregress the furthest outta the pair of them, the most thay can hope for is final 16

Agreed. Look at the magic you get with the FA Cup. Yes there are some great matches in the CL seems to have the same teams get to the final stages all the time. It's too predictable in some ways.

Yeah the CL is like the ugly face of capitalism!!Designed so the big rich clubs earn the money, whilst they hope the wee clubs are gone before the group stage.
Is one countries 4th place team more worthy of a place than another ones champions???
The title champions league is a lie!!
And also you get teams like Liverpool who focus their whole season on it and then claim to be the best team in Europe on the basis of a few matches. A true league system is the only way to decide something although you do get some great matches in the CL

The best matches dont always involve the biggest clubs tho!!They just get more hype.
To be fair Barcelona Chelsea has always lived up to expectations, Man Utd Real Madrid a few years back was a great match.

Thats 2 out of how many tho??The dull boring ones far outweigh the good ones.
Once you get to the last 16 the majority of matches are exciting, as I said before its the ones where you've got Man Utd player some unheard of team taht are like watching paint dry.
I went to see Chelsea v. Moscow a few years back and Chelsea hardly turned up and still got a 2-0 win, it was one of the dullest matches I've ever watched, and I've had season ticket at Brentford for 3 years so that's saying something. There was no atmosphere either, all through the match the chelsea fans were outsung by the russians.

Some of the Italian teams are really dull!!Too defensive.
Never watched the match but when Liverpool went to Juventus with a 2-1 lead, it must have been the dullest match. No prizes for guessing/remembering final score...
it would be better back to the old way. just a knock out from start to finish. it has been all about money from when it changed to a league format. the bigger the team the bigger the money. its just bollocks

Well Ipersonally think Rangers have a much stronger team than they have had in the last few seasons and feel if they make it to the group stages they might just get a little further as their confidence will grow with every game.
However, I am forever the optimist lol

Some of the Italian teams are really dull!!Too defensive. thats why i think that italian bloke celtic bought might struggle in spl this season because he might be too defensive but then again he may be used as a DM instead of a MC. Celtic may be a bit slower to come forward this year, if they play trough him, but i bet he'll be pure class in the CL.
im happy the way big walteris injecting more pace into the rangers line up, we might just have a better year!

We got rid of Lennon and you don't get much more negative in midfield than him.
It's all positive from now on for Celtic.
We made it to the last 16 last year and if our players tried to look interested, they could have tried to win the group rather than finishing second to Man United. The players didn't look at all interested and were lucky they only got beat 3-1 by Copenhagen. That would have let us play Lille and I think we could have overcome them.
Anyway, I wont make excuses. We need to be a hard team to beat, similarly to the way Martin O'Neill put us on the map. I must admit we had three brilliant strikers, but we tough to overcome due to our defence. If we get anywhere next season, we will need to introduce another good centre back. Our strike force I am unsure about as Scott McDonald played for Motherwell and scored 15 last season, which is fairly average, but I believe it was due to the team he was playing being weak as a whole, with all due respect.
I do not believe Rangers have made any major improvements and they will struggle in European Competition. In my opinion, Rangers were extremely lucky to qualify for The Champions' League last 16 in 2006 with only 7 points.
I think that Celtic must make improvements to the squad in order for us to reach the last 16. If we do this, I have the hope and belief that we may reach the Quarter Finals with some luck, with luck of course and depending on how our group is.
Of course for both teams, we may have to overcome a strong opposition to reach the group stages of The Champions' League and we all need to take this into consideration, myself included as I often forget this.
It all depends on which teams are included in the same group as Celtic and Rangers.

I agree, there is far more pace in the team now and our central defence now dosent have a combined age of 71, lol
I think rangers are not strong enough for a good run in europe but i would not underestimate walter
But dont you think they lack depth in there squad
Rangers need more up front because you wont see many keepers fumble in europe
