This bollock-brained idea keeps being suggested, and now Gordon Brown is on about it.
It's a stupid idea but he obviously thinks it's good for their lot and will totally fuck the Tories.

Why is it a bad Idea? Most people work at around 16 and they should be able to vote if they are paying taxes.
16 year olds are stupid and immature. I wouldn't want them having such an important say.

Not all of them are. Once a 16 yr old leaves school they will be looking for a job, yeah? So they'd be paying taxes once they got a job. Why shouldn't they be able to vote?

That's a bit narrow minded really. Some 16 year olds will be pretty mature in all honestly and will vote. The immature ones will probably not vote as they will find it boring.

Whether they pay tax or not shouldn't come into it. Now, they can be fucked up the arse at 16 - that shouldn't come into it either.

We'd have legions of Middlesbrough's No1 simple-minded chav types turning up on polling day.

Why? If they pay taxes then they helping to run the country and giving places like hospitals money.

I always thought he was 1 year older than me which would make him 18, not 16.....

I don't care. I'll generalise on this.

If they pay taxes then of course it does. You pay the taxes to run the country. So if your paying, surely you should be able to vote at the tender age of 16.

Most people don't vote (including myself) as its all lies and they are all the same on day to day running of the UK. Fair enough the independent parties would want us out of europe but being in Europe is a good thing. Bring on the Euro!!

They say they will do this, they will do that, once they get into power, they then say why they can't do this or do that!! They think of excuses.

All this voting crap's a load of bollocks anyways. What 16year old actually wants to vote?
I think that if 16 year olds get the rights to vote then they should get some kind of political education first cos half of 16 year olds haven't got a clue about politics and the stuff they do know about, like the prices of alcohol and tabs going up, they don't recognise as political.

Majority of people don't care about politics nevermind 16 year olds.
It's sad that we're so apathetic towards it really. Not cry sad but "I've run out of beer and the shops closed" sad.

Thing is, everyone cares about politics... they just don't always associate it with politics.
Everything to do with money is political. Anything to do with anything public like the park, the pub, the shops, the leisure centre.... all political.
I remember than annoying advert
"They've put the price of a pint up"
Ah ah ah you don't do politics
ad infitum
The majority of people are stupid. You vote for whoever you think serves you best.

If you're old enough to breed, your old enough to vote. (just kidding)
too young in my opinion.
But if they were allowed to vote, majority won't do it and it will be amusing to see politicians try to get their vote by acting hip :nodyes:

16 is to young, fcuking hell let kids be kids these days and stop making them grow up to fast. Aslo 16 to have sex is fcuking stupid as well.
Make every thing 21!!

Your right but not everyone thinks like that, most people associate politics with posh men in suits. The turnout would go down even more which is a good idea for Brown and other politicans because they don't have to worry about being accountable, but not good for democracy.
Most 16 year olds probably don't even know the difference between right and left wing, most couldn't recognise David Cameron and most would decide their vote on something stupid like who listens to the arctic monkeys. When I was 16 I wasn't mature enough to vote, I couldn't see through the propoganda.
If anything the voting age should be raised.
