Europe the aim for Gibson's Boro
Steve Gibson has set his sights on European football and has vowed to make Middlesbrough's next 10 years the best in the club's history.
The club enjoyed two glorious seasons of European competition under Steve McClaren, culminating in a UEFA Cup final appearance in 2006, when they were beaten 4-0 by Sevilla.
Gareth Southgate's men finished 12th in the top flight last season and never looked like mounting a sustainable top seven finish.
But chairman Gibson is eager to bring back the good times.
He told the Evening Gazette: "We enjoyed our two seasons in Europe and we would like to experience it all over again. We had some fabulous evenings here and we would like to bring it back.
"We are certainly capable of achieving that. This club has appeared in more cup finals than any other outside the top four over the last 10 years.
"We've had 10 years in the Premiership and only seven or eight other clubs have managed that.
"If the last 10 years were the best in the club's history, then we want to make the next 10 even better."
Good to see expectations are high..we need to bring in a few more players if we want to do anything this season..
