Lee Hendrie claims Middlesbrough have joined the chase to sign him.

The former England international is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Aston Villa.

A host of clubs have been linked with the 30-year-old and Hendrie says former Villa team-mate Gareth Southgate has expressed an interest in taking him to Teesside.

"Middlesbrough are the latest club to make an inquiry - there has been interest from eight," Hendrie told the News of the World.

"I know Gareth well and admit it would be very tempting.

"I'd like to stay in the Premiership and think I can still do a job here.

"I hope to get a deal done with someone soon."

i wont be happy with this signing..he is absolutely shite.

How would he fit in to Southgate's plans? I mean how many seasons would be left in him?

He's 30, you should be able to get another 3 or 4 years out of him. He didn't do that bad last season on loan for Stoke. That is a division lower but i stilll think he's good enough to play in the prem.
