I'm sure the Beckham story won't last as long as the Maddy one, I don't think anything will ever last that long.

Not really, he's quite a good ambassador for this country and one of the biggest celebs in Britain/Europe going to US is quite a big story. It's what people want to read/listen/watch so it's what they're going to do, if you don't like it you don't have to pay attention to it.

I've been sick of hearing about the Beckhams for years now. One non-entity pop star and one average footballer past his prime. I've never figured out what all the fuss surrounding them has been all about.

It's the fact he's got charisma. Real Madrid in LA Galaxy obviously aren't paying such huge amounts because of his footballing talents, their paying it because they'll get the money back in sponsorship, shirt sells etc.

It's because of the celeb culture, particularly in UK and US, that there's such a fuss

I actually don't mind it, don't think all the media attention towards him has annoyed me yet.

Although, they have milked it a bit in the papers the past few days, saying all the same stuff; "Will Becks raise the status of football" "Team mates feel out casted by Becks' move to the camp" "BECKS STAYS OUT UNTIL 2AM!!1111one"

etc.

Well I think there going abit overboard, Becks might be a huge name but it really is getting silly - take the Dailt Star for example who today said coverage of LA Galaxy games in the US will include the changing rooms :|

I heard his wife is getting a reality show about buying a house in LA... Bizarre.

Yeah, there is way too much stuff in the press about them though. He's just a football player for Christ's sake. Wish he'd come to Toronto, here he could get away from a lot of the media attention and paparazzis that come with living in America, and just be a soccer player again.

The reality show already aired. I think it was on Monday. At the MLS all-star game they definitely pumped Beckham. It was nearly all they talked about and the constantly showed him. They even had an interview with him at half time. He's been on the cover of Sports Illustrated and numerous papers. They're going to pump as much out of this as they can.

they have to over play it. The deal involves endorsements, ads, sponsorships, etc. so the best way to guarantee that is to show him off as much as possible.

At least he's getting MLS noticed more over here, I was in JJB earlier and they have a whole stock of LA Galazy shirts, never seen American shirts over here before.

Pisses me off, I feel sorry for Beckham (for the amount of expectations) i feel sorry for the team of LA Galaxy, because they're like ''where the fuck were the cameras before beckham was here'' and another thing that gets to me is that all the LA Galaxy shirts in England are priced at £40 with Beckham on teh fucking back.

How much are they in the US?

westboy

Probably $100

I don't think he's going to live up to the hype. American's aren't that interested in soccer anyway, they just like him because he's a big celeb. As someone's said before on here, if a huge baseball player came over here (do we even have a professional league) no-one would be interested and it would piss everyone off that he was getting so much attention.

Also Beckham isn't a showboater, whether you rate him or not he's not someone who's going to be doing loads of tricks or playing to the camera and casual fans will probably not see what all the fuss is about.
