Robson - Why Arsenal can blossom without Henry

By Chris Harris

Stewart Robson expects Arsenal to thrive in the wake of Thierry Henry's departure.

The French striker's move to Barcelona has been seized upon by critics who claim that Arsène Wenger's side will struggle in the title race this season. But the Arsenal TV analyst disagrees.

Far from being a retrograde step, Robson believes Henry's absence can rejuvenate Arsenal's young squad and help them grow as a team.

"I think it's the next step for this team," Robson told Arsenal.com. "If you watched Arsenal for the last two years I think you will have seen that Thierry Henry has not been the player he was three or four years ago.

"I think we're losing the Henry from last season. He's still an excellent player but in my opinion he's been on a gradual decline for the last two years and I think Arsenal will move on to the next stage now."

Henry's departure hastened the arrival of a new striker in the shape of Eduardo. The Croatian international has an impressive scoring record for club and country. In Robson's opinion, Eduardo will give Arsenal more variety in attack.

"They can play an all-round game now," he said. "Eduardo is quick, he's good with his back to play. He's going to be a good finisher, his goals to games ratio is fantastic both in Croatia and at international level. He's one player I'm really looking forward to seeing.

"Arsenal have also got Adebayor, so if they get into crossing areas he can get on the end of things. They've got Robin van Persie who can play on the left-hand side and can join in from there. He can make forward runs or play with his back to goal. There are plenty of options for Wenger."

Henry is a legend to the club and when i first found out he was going i was devastated but life goes on. He took Ian Wrights most goals for the club so i wonder how long that stands for?

There is life after Henry and I don’t think we will miss him that much
I am only saying that because we have had to do without him last season

They need to start putting the ball in the net. It's not like they don't create loads of chances.

Too early for Murphy though.

You would have thought they would put in extra shooting in the training program after last season but after watching the last game I don’t think they have

Henry missed half of last year and the team still finished 4th. He was injured for some time the previous season as well.

The rest of the players will step up and fill the void, just watch. Plus the new striker, Eduardo has a amazing record for scoring goals. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fill that void very nicely.

Eduardo may very well turn out to be a terrific signing, but you never can tell. A lot of guys have great scoring records, but when they switch leagues aren't able to settle in. Remember Sergiy Rebrov for Spurs? Even Shevchenko didn't do very well for Chelsea last year. And I always think of the great Liverpool striker, Ian Rush, who went off to play a season for Juventus, but returned to Liverpool the next season after scoring only 7 goals, saying he just couldn't settle in Italy because "it was like living in a foreign country." :hahaha:

True, but those players have alot of pressure on there shoulders when entering a totally different style of football league.
Although Dudu had a brilliant goal scoring ratio with Zagreb, I feel he will get between 10-15 goals this season (with the possibility that he actually plays for us!)

However, I feel RVP will be our main gunman this season. Hes been looking very good in pre-season and can't wait to see him back up front in the Premiership.

It will be interesting to see how Van Persie does. A talented lad, that's for sure. Sky high expectations though. If he can relax and not feel like he has to be Thierry Henry, he should do well.
