HOLLAND want Tottenham manager Martin Jol to take over as their new national team coach after Euro 2008.

Dutch coach Marco van Basten is expected to step down after the finals in Austria and Switzerland next summer.

The Daily Express understands that Jol has already been informally sounded out by the Dutch FA as to whether he would be interested in the job – but he has indicated that he wants to concentrate solely on breaking into English football’s top four with Tottenham after four years of progress. Van Basten’s contract runs out after Euro 2008, and the former Ajax and

AC Milan striker has so far resisted attempts to get him to sign a new deal taking him to the 2010 World Cup.

The 42-year-old is expected to move into club management after the finals, with Chelsea looking at him as a possible successor to Jose Mourinho. Jol, 51, has been in charge at Spurs since 2004 after initially being appointed as assistant manager to the Frenchman Jacques Santini, whose spell in charge proved short-lived.

Since then the Dutchman has steadily improved Tottenham’s fortunes, last season seeing them reach both the
FA and Uefa Cup quarter-finals, yet still failing to break into the top four.

This summer Jol has spent more than £35million on players such as Darren Bent, Younes Kaboul and Gareth Bale. Jol has three years of his current contract left.

This is stupid, like Jol would spend nearly four years of building our side just to leave it now? Complete, bollocks.

I hope you're right, but I can understand why the Dutch federation would want him and it's always an honor to be your national team's manager.

Yeah, but Jol said he would like to spend atleast another 3 years at Spurs. Doesn't seem like a long time but it's better than him leaving now.

Yeah, I hope he stays at least that long. But if he's the guy they want now, he might have to seriously think about it because it's an opportunity that doesn't come along every day.

It's a big question as it's his home Country but I can't see him leaving somehow.

If he doesn't stay it might not make a big difference as he has layed the foundations. However it would be upsetting such a brilliant manager has left the Club! Of course, then the ultimate question, who would replace him? :animatedfear:

Haha....hard to say who might follow him. I don't even want to think about it until he's gone!

I'd take a weighted guess at Klinsmann, but it's not something I really want to think about at the moment either!

Klinsmann would be great, but he's pretty settled here in the U.S. and I don't think it would be easy to get him to leave. And there's no way he could commute like he did with Germany. He's my guy though and one of the guys who lured me to be a Spurs fan. :thumbup1:

I was really hoping he would take over the USMNT. Don't know what went on there. Maybe he just wants to take a couple of years off and will take over sometime before the 2010 WC (wishful thinking). :nodyes:

I remember watching him when I was a young one, 13-14 I think. Brilliant, even if he was a diver :nodyes:

It would be great to have him for a manager, you never know what will happen during the 3 years though.
