Van Persie blasts Freddie
Eurosport - Sun, 05 Aug 13:02:00 2007
Robin van Persie has slammed former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg for his recent criticism of the Gunners.
Ljungberg left the Emirates for West Ham last month, only to fire a parting shot at his former club on his way across London, claiming Arsenal lacked ambition by letting Thierry Henry leave.
But Van Persie, who netted for Arsenal as they beat Ajax 1-0 on Saturday, was quick to hit back at his "weak" former team-mate.
"If you play nine years at a club like Arsenal you can say some nice words," the Dutchman told the News of the World.
"If you're coming up with excuses about Thierry's departure and about promises from the club it's a bit weak.
"I was disappointed and I know a few others were as well. He had a fantastic period, he was once the best player in England, so come on and say some nice things for this club, which is fantastic."
Ljungberg played over 300 games in his nine years with the north London club, winning the Premier League title twice and the FA Cup three times.
Why do players open their mouths when they change clubs!!! There is no need for it really.
